It's not about whether they care, it's the attention that an entirely empty stadium would get from around the world, bringing the fight against them to a whole new audience. You can easily get sued for issuing a fake review. And knowing Ehab... I personally would advise anyone not to get involved.
They're just doing what they said they would do; acting in their own interests after the name change failed. Obviously the experience of last year has shown them that their asking price wasn't going to be met so they are finding a different way to raise the money that they want/need. £10m income from fans is more relevant than last season but still not a lot compared to £47m in parachute payment. The one issue is that a fire sale doesn't bring the full value of the assets (player valued at £10m and sold for £8m) and so the club would be worth less than it was before (although liquidity would improve).

There are not enough assets to strip to pay back what they are owed, especially if the transfer fees are paid over two or three years rather than cash up front. If they want to lose money they can asset strip and get out. If they want to make a profit they'll try and get promoted. We don't have that long to wait and find out what they'll do.
