All the best, mate. My sister is currently in the General undergoing tests as it seems her secondaries have spread and there's a chance that there may be something in her brain. It's a bugger, isn't it? Live for today - you never know.

I really want to go to the US to do some travelling, but the current situation and the government is putting me right off. Have decided to stay in Europe and see what's around here ......

tbh....you'd probably be alright if you stay in the main drag. I walked round New York and never felt in danger, They seem to be too busy shooting ex-workmates.

I got robbed at gunpoint in New Orleans a few years ago...it was a fairly invigorating experience, but it didn't put me off going back to the States several times. The gun culture over there never really made me feel unsafe despite all the stories that I've read. As Fran said, if you stay in the more usual places it's probably pretty safe. I met a guy in Vermont who warned me about their summer crime spree and advised me against leaving my car windows open or door unlocked to prevent me being "zuchinnied". Crops of zucchini can be so prolific that people leave boxes of them in unlocked stranger's cars because they have so many that they don't know what to do with them.

Oh, don't get me wrong - I love the States. Lived in Noo Joisey from 1998 - 2001 and then moved into Manhattan from 2001 - 2004 and never felt threatened once. It's the current political climate, the out of control lack of gun control and the sheer nastiness of the governing multitude which is putting me off.
Saying that though, my daughter and her husband are currently in Montana (no - I refuse to get jealous, but really ......) and having the most wonderful trip .....
Maybe when they get rid of that megalomaniac in the White House ......

What a great story! Love it!

Whilst thinking about locking of car doors, a friend of my sisters who lives in Colorado. just posted pics of her car which was trashed in the night because a bear got in (it was unlocked) and the door shut itself, locking the bear in the car ....... I haven't asked her how they removed said bear from the car yet, but the upholstery isn't in particularly good shape now!!

Bears! Bloody scary massive things. I stumbled across one raiding a skip, suffice it to say I didn't hang around for it to finish its snack

Thank you everyone for your kind comments.
The key part to my post was the last line. Live for today etc....
Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today etc...
Our next holiday will now have to be delayed, owing to the planned treatment, but getting her well again (please) is what is important.
I'm actually surprised that she hasn't yet suggested delaying the treatment, and I expect she will, in the not too distant, future suggest it.
I'm not yet sure how bad things are, but the speed we are moving at towards the PET scan and chemo is alarming, and the specialist was very quick to agree, when I told my wife that our holiday would have to wait.

Davecg69. Hope things work out for your sister.

Your news Badger and Davecg69 is a reality check for many of us. It brings to mind a sad accident that happened nearly 20 years ago. People I know had a 16 year old son and he was celebrating with his friends on the seafront after finishing his GCSEs and leaving his school. The boy decided to go home alone but had a fall and died the next day. His mother worked in a public library. Although she would greet people with a smile, I could see that she was still crying deep inside. It must be a pain that never goes away. Every day I think of her agony, even though I live in Mallorca and she is in the UK. So when we see people in the street, none of knows the pain that individual is carrying.

I went to the Carrefour store here in Palma last weekend with my friend. We were approached by a guy seeking money. My friend told me that he was in all probability a resident at a home housing alcoholics and drug users. Anyhow, we gave him a Gazpacho, and the way he consumed the contents was a pleasure to see.
