The meaning of "wherefore" in Shakespearean English was "why", not "where". So what Juliet was actually saying was "why are you Romeo?", or in other words, "why, of all people, did I have to fall in love with a ****ing Montague?"
Have a feeling that we will not be signing any significant players this window. The longer the takeover saga drags on, KL is never going to sanction a big money signing in my opinion. Most on here would agree that we were 2 or 3 players lacking in quality to not only push on, but to maintain our fight for 7th / 8th. Also feel that this will be the reason why the likes of VVD and Bertrand, will want to move on, and more players in the future. LR has got to keep his mouth shut now and stop chirping on about champions league ambitions, regular qualification for Europa League etc etc. It is in to happen with or current squad. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/15406351.No_Saints_talks_for_Vietto/
Why is it that the press consider Bertrand worth £25m and yet Walker £50m. I appreciate they play on different sides but out of the two I would say Ryan is the better and more reliable player and is on a long contract but I do appreciate Saints are considered an easy touch when selling players compared with Spurs I hope if we have to sell RB that we close ranks with Spurs and ask similar amounts
Not necessarily...I think we can all agree that Saints underperformed last season. If the team is kept intact, I can see us playing better if Mauricio turns out to suit us better than Puel (who also had to contend with crucial injuries).
Well, considering most thought Puel didn't get the best from the squad last season then surely Pellegrino will? Don't need squad depth. Should be looking to improve the first team if the right player comes along. No point in signing players just because people are bored...
We cant really buy 2 players to go straight into our first team for 25 m, we can't really buy one player better than Bertrand for 25m and we have all the depth we need so no reason to buy more backup. I don't see how selling Bertrand gor 25m will benefit us. Keep him.
If the board truely are going to follow up all their talk of not selling by actually keeping the likes of Ryan and Virgil then I'm ok with a small number of signings. Only problem is that, whilst I'm sure the club have a plan B, if we are forced to sell later on in the window then this stance would be our downfall. People can also argue that if we are keeping these players for once then this is the best opportunity to build on that and have a storming season.
This is what currently being a saints fan feels like.. ( Through my eyes anyway). You live in a street of houses , everyone else is building extentions , hobtubs fitted and having solar roof panels fitted, and are one by one getting hooked up to BT infinity wifi and Sky +HD... We on the other hand seem content on patching up cracks in the lounge wall with filler, a lick of paint to cover the rust of the garage door and refuse to upgrade to broadband because the dial up works " fine".
But we also have a now-world-famous menagerie that gives us an edge over a lot of the houses on the street. However, we are trying desperately to stop some animals getting food from other houses, because our scouse neighbours keep peering over the fence whistling at the cages, offering treats.
Despite Blackmore saying not true, sky aren't giving up on it. New update just now: SAINTS IN VIETTO TALKS Southampton are in talks to sign striker Luciano Vietto from Atletico Madrid, according to Sky sources. We understand the Saints may have to lose one of their current forwards to facilitate the move for Vietto, who spent last season on loan at Sevilla. After Jay Rodriguez moved to West Brom earlier this month, Southampton still have Charlie Austin, Shane Long and Manolo Gabbiadini on their books.
On paper, we don't need another striker. Be great to have a super duper one, but who moves on? Bit like Sophie's Choice. The obvious one is Long....but I think he brings more to the side in the way of speed and could do very well playing with the right number one striker. Gallagher? I'd be pretty pissed if I was him after he signed an extension with the promise of a chance. Manolo...we know how good he can be....unless it was a flash in the pan. Strangely enough, I'm considering Austin.
Last season we went in relying on Austin and Long and Rodriguez until January, then Gabbiadini and Long pretty much. Long and Austin can't be relied upon for goals across the entire season, that's the issue. And Gallagher probably won't do a Harry Kane. Someone to provide better link up play as an attacking midfielder rather than a new striker would be higher up the preference order I would imagine.
To be fair to Austin, last season he has had the smallest number of appearances in a season since he was in the Wessex league 10 years ago. Before he joined us there was only one season he didnt get double that. From his record you can rely on him. I would say we're pretty well covered with him and Gabbi. Long and Gallagher are good cover options as far as i'm concerned. My preference would be to invest in wide/AM players, but i think Vietto counts as that anyway from comments i've seen.
Spurs finished 2nd last season. They're in the CL for the second season running. They're bigger than us. They're in a much greater position to dig their heels in than we are. Of course it does help that they have a very stubborn chairman.
