You both make a compelling case (other than the captain material - I don't think he's vocal enough and looks like Kane is being lined up for that role if and when Lloris leaves). It is exceptionally rare to find a player who can play in 3 different positions, and do so to a consistently high standard. 4 positions if you count his time playing as an out and out RB in Poch's first season. If we were contemplating selling him, my choices to replace him (Keane and Maguire) have already signed for other clubs. I agree that when Soton eventually swallow a lot of pride and allow Van Dijk to leave, we won't stand a chance competing with the size of clubs who would logically swoop in for his signature. I would see someone like Alfie Mawson as a more realistic option - but there again, he is currently a few miles off of Dier's current level and is the same age: there is no guarantee he'd turn out to be an equal replacement, let alone an upgrade. Whilst Dier Hard and I tend to agree about predictions and many other things, an unwritten rule of the universe is that we can never agree about tactics. So I'll just finish off by saying: The reason we can switch between the two formations is a man who loves Spaghetti, not Eric.
I'm not trying to suggest a load of new players HBIC, just maybe 1 that has been identified to give us that little push, so we can kick on. A bit of a proven name, which shows the other players that we are keen to learn from last year and get even better. There's some areas to address, and whilst the players have their friendship groups etc etc, they are all human and know exactly where we need to strengthen the squad. - just like us fans who can identify it. My concern is they'll see other clubs signing some big names who they'd quite fancy playing with, and knowing they can earn far more money anyway, whilst we're just sitting around not doing a lot. It doesn't give a great impression, IMO, especially with our track record of leaving things late, and deadline day dealings.

I watched alfie mawson 2 seasons ago play for wycombe who had him on a season long loan and he was superb well wort a punt in my opinion as is pierre another class centre back who has just run down his contract at wycombe and I feel poch would make both of them better players .with today's prices well worth a gamble

Because irony has a sense of humour we're linked with Man City U18 winger Jadon Sancho who, unlike so many Chelsea youngsters, apparently has an ounce of self-respect and wants to leave so he can move on to the next stage of his career. In other words, this summer we're looking at wingers with afros, as both Sancho and Vincent Marcel (who was supposed to be our first summer signing...three weeks ago) both looking like they use Fellaini's barber...but hopefully don't use him as a template for how they play football.

Apparently, Gylfi Sigurdsson won't be going on Swansea's pre-season tour. There's no indication that he's suffering from the painful 'Barkley's Groin' condition and Paul Clement says the club may have to sell their best player. I wonder how Kyle Walker's groin's doing?
