I like that a lot Chilcs, have you heard much of Fleet Foxes?...Here's one off their current album, Crack Up...
Magnum . A group I really rate , but they never quite hit the " Big time " . And some BRILLIANT album covers by Rodney Matthews .
Woody Guthrie, "The Dustbowl Troubadour" was born on this day in 1912. He hugely influenced three of my music heroes, Bob Dylan, Joe Strummer and Billy Bragg and it is doubtful that there would've been a folk protest song movement in the 1960s without him. Here is his signature song...
Saw them live in Birmingham many years ago. Absolutely fantastic. Their musical range is very diverse.
It is summer, so this one is very apt from one of the best music shows ever, presented by the excellent Don Cornelius. By comparison the BBC's TOTPs presenters were absoultely terrible and condescending.
Just got back from a jazz festival in France where the line up was increasingly commercial and included a number of performers who had no real right to be there. There were a number of acts that impressed, most notably blues guitarist Mr Sipp, French jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty (probably more famous for playing with John McLaughlin ad Frank Zappa but now playing acoustic music.) and Roberto Fonseca. The star f the festival was Angelique Kidjo
Who were these commercial guys? Maybe if you can name the festival, I'll Google it! Arguably the biggest one of this kind in the UK, is the Love Supreme Festival held during the first weekend of July.
Well I've just got back from my daughter's dance show and my daughter did a dance to this one. Made my day - amazing.
Before I went out today I popped in here [as you do] and very much enjoyed the Booker T. & MGs inclusions. One of my smaller guilty pleasures from way back as an otherwise progressive rock lover. So much so that I bought their 1977 album Universal Language. I like it so much that if anything, I think it is better than all their classic numbers. Then again, I grew to like it. I wouldn't expect one hearing to change anyone's mind. Here's a typical track from it. Moto Cross. The usual sports theme. Adore that Hammond organ sound:
The guilty pleasures keep piling up [I blame The Dell Tannoy and the DJ], but I notice Kool & The Gang making an appearance. Never got around to buying one of their albums but I was always pleased to hear a new single from them. Great funky pop band. I don't have a favourite ffrom them because in their golden period they produced some great stuff. I've picked Joanna because the song is excellent and the video is pretty good too. This is summertime singing along in the car pop music if ever there was medium. I will still readily yop this out when behind the wheel with the radio on:
