Thats just bollocks. He'll be playing centre back. The reason Conte wanted him is because he's basically played the same personnel all last season and he won't be able to do that next season with UCL games.
You can't compare a kid who played a grand total of 25 minutes for them in the league last year with someone they've just spent big money on.
I'm not sure that's what he was doing. He was just suggesting that Chelsea wouldn't let a squad player go until they have signed somebody in that position. They wouldn't want to rely on the kid but they would want to keep him in place just in case until they signed somebody else to play there.
They do have cover though. They have a very special talent in a wing back called Sterling and several impressive defenders in Chalobah, Tomori and Jake Clarke-Salter
He signed a new contract last season knowing how we are as a club. There were no takers for him last year. He'll be pushing for this if he can. Last payday. He was abysmal till march last time in the championship. I wouldn't buy him as the risk is too much.
