That's a shame TIC. Love Banff/Jasper area, been to Canmore, but never made it to Calgary which I would love to. My cousin lives in Salmon Arm in the Okanagan and I once spent a summer there with my uncle another truly amazing place. My other cousin lives on the Island, my Mrs always says VI is the only place she would ever emigrate to.
The Reeperbahn is certainly a sight to see and full of bars and clubs and restaurants. You'll find the fish market not too far away too which is a great place to visit. Many people go down to the fish market after a night out and eat (and start drinking again) early in the morning, there's often bands playing and of course, all the fish coming in and being sold - you would have to check the days when this occurs as I don't think it is every day, but a great place to go. The centre of the town is great too with plenty to do and see and drink, with some stunning architecture.
My brother in law lives in Armstrong, just down the road from Salmon Arm and we'd planned to spend two three nights there and visit a couple of wineries. Then we were going to camp with my daughter (who lives in Mission, BC) for a few nights at Tofino. Then head back via Cathedral Grove, Butchart Gardens and Victoria. Oh well, the Canmore run will be a nice break and we'll get a couple of hikes in and I suspect the wedding will be a blast. As prairie people say, "The Rockies are pretty spectacular but they sure block the view!"
Agreed about the red light district. Awful filthy as in mucky place. We stopped there on cruise. Ms over 18 and I were glad to get out of the area and that was during the afternoon. The city centre was lovely
Park up in the South area. As you come into SCarboro it's on the right hand side. Most streets have free on street parking. it only takes 15 mins to walk in.
Then you have nothing to worry about. No flights, just get down here, you drop your bags off, check in and walk up the gang way to start your holiday.
That's one of the main reasons we chose it. Last two holidays abroad have been quality but long delays at first Ibiza and then Parma airports have properly got on my tits. We're driving down the day before and staying in a lovely hotel outside of Southampton. Get up the next day, full English, short drive to the ship and game on. Any advice re dress code? I don't want to be wearing long strides on me hols if I can help it. We're on the Independence of the Seas. I really should have looked into this before booking.
France and Spain. Her indoors has told me where the documentation is with the itinerary but I can't be arsed to look. I know Bilbao is one of the ports we stop at.
We went to Swanage today. Dived at the pier and then had a meal on the way home. It has been one of those summer days that you wish could last forever. A drive past Corfe Castle with the stream train rolling past. Swanage is such a great seaside town. I met up with my dive group and my missus sat and read her book. The dive is under the pier, only 4 mtrs deep, but because the sea bed is in semi darkness, the sea life is great. Hardly any current and visibility at around 5mtrs, makes for a very good easy dive to test my gear on. A large shoal of Pollock was undisturbed by the divers swimming around it. At the turn for home point I was joined by a small group of Wrasse, that stayed just in front of me all the way back. Mission accomplished, my wet suit kept me warm and my wieghting and trim was perfect. Why on earth do I feel the need to book holidays in the med?
Ball gown for dinner in case the captain requests you to dine with him and your lass can wear whatever she likes.
