Done 2 cruises. Western Med and Norway. Just booked Northern Europe for next April. Love some aspects and hate others. This time we will not be dining in the resturants, we will use the buffet as it will give us more time to do what we want. The cruise ship crew, spend every waking hour trying to get you to spend money. Photos, cocktails and trips cost a fortune. Gala nights were you dress up, are actually ok. Its different for me, within an hour of leaving home, I am on board and the holiday starts. Our bar bill for 12 days was £970 and on the last 7 day trip to Norway it was £550. 15% surcharge on all drinks for tips. The next cruise is all inclusive 7 nights for £650. Cruises are great for families and they are not full of old fogies like me. My grandchildren love going on them and they have a trip on one in November.
Hope you're going last week of Nov to catch the markets which are truly amazing in Hamburg. Wonderful city and area. Trip to Lubeck is a must if you have time too.
Just started a new job so had to cancel my planned trip west including: Canmore for a wedding, on to the Okanagan for a couple of wine tours and then to Tofino with additional stops on the island. Now it'll just be a couple of Rocky mountain hikes, the wedding on Friday and a round trip of about 1,800 km starting next Thursday and travelling home Saturday.
My cruise next April Le Harve, Zeebrugge, 2 nights in Amsterdam and Hamburg. I plan to hire a car in Le Harve, drive to Hornfluer. Go to Ghent from Zeebrugge Amsterdam is easy, been there before and will explore further out. Hamburg is the odd one out. We might just do the hop on and off tourist bus, but no idea what we want to see. Besides the obvious red light district, I know nothing about Hamburg. Our groups interests are limited to ... erm ..... drinking.
I went to Hamburg on the obligatory stag do, the red light area is as awful as you'd expect, but move into the city centre and it's pretty fantastic. Went to watch a St Pauli game where they come out to Hell's Bells and in winter you can drink gluhwein whilst standing on the terraces. What's not to like?
Cheers for that. We've bought the drinks and the gratuity packages so all booze( barring cocktails) and all the tips are already paid for. We're doing the West coast of France and Spain, I don't even know what places we stop off at, apart from Bilbao. I need to get a grip.
As a member of generation rent desperately scrambling for pennies to save enough money for a deposit for a house, whilst also running a car and being paid hugely under the going rate for a managers job I've had for a year on 'secondment' with no certainty of getting it permenantly and getting pay parity with other managers - I will be having my second summer in succession without a holiday. Maybe Scarborough for a day, depending how much it costs to park.
You're not kidding there. Stan was mid 40's and rather portly and Jack was even older, looked like a paraffin with teeth like sugar puffs. Still prolific in the pulling department though, made no sense then and still doesn't now. None.
Always hated On The Buses - not due to any ism particularly, just the sight of it really depresses me. With regard to the girls they pull (compared to their age/how they look/their social position) - I always thought it was supposed to be part of the gag - how ludicrous it was. Perhaps I was over thinking it then.
We had trip round USA back in April (San Fran, road trip via Yosemite to Vegas then New York), already seems ages ago. Only problem with going early is you have to endure everyone's holidays stories all summer! Want to sneak a week in the sun in October, but now got weddings in London and then Belfast (bloody nephews and nieces getting wed, even USA trip was based around a Vegas wedding), which won't be cheap and use up my leave.
Doing a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia with a bit of photography involved. Did a similar trip to India 2 years ago. Thats were the photo in my avatar was taken.
We love Majorca, usually go to C'an Picafort, just along from Alcudia, much nicer up the North of the island. Got another baby due in 2 weeks so no holiday this year!" Or any ****ing sleep coming to think of it!
Where did you cruise in Norway? Been lots of times as I work over there a bit. Usually work in Oslo, but been to Bergen on holiday twice too. I was working in Alesund a couple of weeks ago, would love to go back there for a holiday, what an amazing and beautiful place. I noticed a lot of cruise ships coming in and out of Alesund while I was there.
