Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio has given up on a loan deal for QPR striker Leon Clarke.
Di Canio met with the 26-year-old, who is deemed surplus to requirements at the Premier League new boys, and revealed that Clarke was interested in moving to the Country Ground on loan.
But there was an initial fear that the striker's wages would be too much for Swindon, given that he joined QPR on a two-year contract only a year ago.
And Di Canio has now confirmed that Clarke is too expensive for his League Two promotion hopefuls.
He said: "That deal is off. The wages are too high, I don't want to say what they are but it is too much."

i recon I must live in a dream world. If I was a professional football player, i would want to go where I am wanted. Clarke knows he isn't going to get a chance at QPR, so why doesn't he try to get a pay off from QPR and then re-start his career at Swindon?

I suspect he will be loaned to swindon with an option to buy and we will pay around half his salary for this season makes more sense for everybody concerned, except we will get him back once Di Canio finds out how bad he really is and by that time he is allowed to leave on a free.

Come on Paulo smell the coffee!

For someone who was such a good player he obviously doesn't have a eye for a player...

Given they would all have seen a rise in wages after promotion, we quite literally cannot give Clarke, Vine or Agyemang away. We more or less offered Vine to Doncaster on loan for free and they didn't want him.

    Back on! <ok>
One down but several to go though. Good news as we clearly need to shift a lot of deadwood before bringing in new blood
