Boy has it been hot again today. :emoticon-0107-sweat With the road closed on the normal route to the baker I decided to go to a different one in the opposite direction. Halfway there I found that the road had also been closed. The diversion signs took me on a ten mile tour of the countryside through villages and hamlets I didn't even know existed. It was all because there are large works going on in many places to underground the electric cables. It would make sense if they did the telephone lines at the same time, but why expect that to prevail?

Morning all from a slightly cooler rural France. Cloud has arrived from the west, but does it have any rain to drop on us is the question. My feeling is that we might see a shower or two, but we need several days of steady non-stop rain. Maybe we will get some as the farmers are working through the night to get crops in, and they usually seem to have an idea about the weather.

I am afraid there have been some around, and one of my bee keeping neighbours had his hives wiped out by them. Normal hornets can be quite dangerous if you are stung by one, but these things are not nice to look at even. There is a notice on our village notice board telling us who to contact if we see them swarming.

I have been waiting all day for the rain to arrive, and now it is here along with the mother and father of a storm. I quite enjoy going outside and watching the lightening, but at present I would get a soaking. May have to shut all of my electrical goodies down any minute.

Sunshine and showers forecast for today, and it has been spot on apart from the fact that it didn't mention thunder and lightening as well. Lost the electricity four times briefly, meaning that the clocks on ovens, microwaves etc are all wrong. I have a lovely old wind up chiming clock that was a present to my parents, but I forget to turn the key every week. I also have a couple of battery operated ones that are not worried by storms; they just stop when the battery gives up. I have a watch that I rarely wear, maybe once or twice a month, that costs me €7 every two years to have a new battery. Quite expensive per wear!
I really feel for those who are governed by the clock. Get to work on time and don't leave before the hour written into your contract. I used to be like that, but today I have a life. It should be possible in this day and age to let people enjoy their time here without being slaves to the clock.

Morning all from an overcast island and we finally have a bit of a breeze, but because the plant I can see from my lounge window keeps moving in different directions, I've no idea which way it's blowing which probably means that whichever direction I am facing when I go to work, it'll be a headwind.

Pottered along to my garage today to get some new tyres. The mechanic who can deal with changing them, sorting out an electrical problem, repairing a faulty component, and just about everything else is no longer there. He is ill with cancer and unlikely to return to work. He had a young lad in about five years ago on job experience, and when he left college he joined the garage as an apprentice. Today he is the main man, and as I watched him do the job in the thorough way that his teacher did, I thought he had been lucky to get such a good grounding that will serve him well in the years ahead.
