Nope. Got to lock up that defence & have solid options for injuries, suspensions etc. The other danger is how do you play Long & Wood? Together? Alternately? Either way, I think you'd damage their confidence & the sum of the two might well be less than either one of them alone. Just my (perhaps over-) cautious view.
I guess the team will be leaving next wednesday or thursday for Austria so it would be great to have any more additions done by then. A left back & centre back as well as Saiz and Aliofski
Just feel we need that inspired signing to really kick start it all off. Too young to remember the early Revie years but some people say it was Bobby Collins in that era. In my opinion it was Gordon Strachan in the Wilkinson years that made the difference. Whereas in O'Leary's time, I even though we had some fantastic players, I don't think we ever signed the one to make it all happen.
Never liked the guy...don't know why as he was a decent footballer but I'd rather play in League 1 than have him as one of our legends.
Actually WJ some of my reminiscing on other posts has reminded me that we won the League with Chris Fairclough and Chalky White as centre backs. Which proves sometimes it's about the sum of the parts rather than the individuals...I do like to contradict myself by the way !
we have signed a left back.just as beradi filled in at left back last season Anita did the same at right back.he played for years as a left back.
Granted but it doesn't sound like it is his preferred position. Anita seems more defensive midfield and can cover LB, RB etc, potentially a bit of a later day Paul Madeley. A midfielder who could play anywhere but best in midfield.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vurnon_Anita seems to have played as a defender all his career.he aint no center mid as i was assured was in newcastle yesterday evening delivering to quidworld offshoot shop.asked the guy there who said he is a good little defender and he rated him..so if he plays right back then who plays left beradi ? and that leaves ayling as sub. interesting test for tommy to solve and perhaps he will do so.any wayi am looking forward to booking my ticket for the oxford friendly on monday and watching the new guys play.
I think he is to fill gaps and add variaty to team structure, but I'm no TC so lets wait and see I hope you guys give Pep a good reception on the 29th
don't envy you they are so bad live unless they have invested in some auto tune mikes but let us know what you and daughter thought. all that apart have a great night.
According to LUTV, Dallas' 2 goals are world class Even if that is slightly overstated, sounds as though Dallas is playing himself into a starting spot for Bolton
No Forza. He's an international, & his goals today suggest he will be starting for us... & will be making a telling contribution for us.
Would be interesting to know if this is a complete mix and match or if the 1st half and 2nd half teams are "probables v possibles'.
Good question LoL. Difficult to say given that Wood will start on his return, as will a couple of others who are returning late. I also suspect we will have a new CB to partner Pontus
