In my opinion, we dont actually need any new players for the moment. I think the current squad has a fantastic togetherness. This is reinforced by the fact that in every interview all of the players always comment on how well they know each other etc. I think any new players would just upset this balance now, especially as any potential inbound players would have to be good enough to displace one of our existing "benchers". If you look at the current team and then look at the back up we have for each place it is unbelievable. Not only fantastic squad depth but also strength in that depth. I was just thinking about the players we have in each sector of the team as back up: GK: Biakowski Def: Fox, Butters, Martin/Seabourne, Jaidi, Dickson Mid: Morgan, Chaplow, Guly, De Ridder, Holmes Fwd: Barney, Forte I may have forgotten quite a few there, but the fact that these guys can play in other areas speaks volumes, and i think even if we took a couple of injuries we would still have a similar strength. (Not to mention the youths) sorry about the WALL OF TEXT
Seabourne is proving us all wrong at the moment, but connolly's injury proness is a worry, i think its just a matter of time till it happens, but i think we will get a couple of loans in for the cb and st positions
I agree we don't really need to buy anyone else, think it's important we get rid of a few now, Puncheon and Mills etc..
Seaborne is playing well at the moment, don't get me wrong. However, he did look suspect a few times last night especially with the two Ipswich goals, that worries me a little. With that in mind, I still think signing a real quality CB would sure up our defense. We could dip into the loan market for a striker aswell, someone like Zavon Hines (as mentioned a few times) would be ideal.
We need a new CF as Connolly won't last the whole season and we need a Quality CB to complete with Fonte and Seaborne to keep both of them on their toes.
Kind of agree with the CB comment. Dont 100% trust seabourne at the moment even though he is proving me wrong. I would love to give Martin a better chance, although he too is relatively inexperienced. It may be nice to have a loan CB of same quality to that of Fonte to give us a nicely pointed wall in defence.
I still would like a centre-half. Seaborne struggled with the huge pressure that Ipswich put on us. I like him and he is a decent player but I would be feeling a lot safer with a experienced centre-half alongside Fonte. I don't think we need a striker at the moment though.
Seabourne has a hell of a lot more potential than Martin. There's not much difference between them in age, but Seaborne is streaks ahead. Can't see Marting get near the First team and believe Jaidi would be ahead of him as well, bu he lacks pace. I think with one more CB coming in, Seaborne could really push on and learn more about the game. He's got more pace, better in the air, better in the tackle and knows when to put his foot through the ball, all things Martin can struggle on.
One CB. Do not trust Seabourne one bit... He was awful against Torquay and in my opinion will be out of his depth in the Championship.
Seaborne has a lot of potential but he is such a massive confidence player. He was playing well yesterday then with a bit of pressure from Ipswich, his confidence went right down. Maybe he needs a run in the team though to improve his composure because if he does then Fonte and Seaborne can create a great partnership.
Seabourne can not play football. His distribution is appalling if we are looking to build for the future we need someone who is composed on the ball. He is not. He'll do a job at this level but an Saints fan who is content with him is showing a complete lack of ambition and is probably part of the "sory mid table brigade".
I too think an additional centre back would be a good thing. If- heaven forbid- Fonte was to pick up an injury somewhere along the line over the course of a long, hard season, my confidence in the defence would drop drastically! It's a tough, physical league & with there being plenty of cover in most other positions, he is the one player I don't think we can afford to rest too often (if at all at the moment)
He's already been in the team of the week. Hardly out of his ****ing depth. I swear people don't watch him properly or they're just thick as shot when it comes to football...
Maybe a CB to replace Seaborne, but no-one else - we have a good acadamy/development squad we can always dip in to, would like to see a young player or 2 get a run in the team this year
Seen three of Seabornes games this season and his passing has been superb. But of course, that's a fact based upon actual observation by someone who has been watching football for 40 years.... I will now comply with the mob mentality and modify my view that he's worse than Nazi Germany and his selection in the Saints first team will inevitably lead to the lord almighty hitting us with 10 deadly plagues.
Seaborne's shortcomings are over-exaggerated. In the same way as... Fonte's shortcomings are mostly ignored.
I can see where you are coming from but in my opinion we definately need a new experienced centre back to partner fonte and if we don't get one i'd be surprised.I'd also say we need another striker as you can guarantee if we don't the day after the transfer window shuts connolly will get injured and then barney will get sent down, this is in no way knocking connolly or barney, especially connolly who was absolutely immense in the 1st half yesterday, his flicks and touches were beautiful and even if we do sign a new striker i'd still want connolly to start.
