Don't think Conte was ever interested in bringing back Rom. Emanalo was keen but Conte had a one on one with Roman and he now picks suitable signatures. I think Rom has used the United avenue to force Chelsea's hand but the irony is he'll probably have to go there now as Conte is eying up others. Also apparently Morata isn't best pleased at the interest shown in Rom and could jump ship to a bigger club like us.
Most Chelsea fans (as in all 5 of them on here, beside myself ) were and are, vehemently against re signing Lukaku and have been from Day one. I was one of the only ones that said I would be okay with it, if we lost Costa.
That was my initial thought to be honest. He was hinting and hinting at wanting to come back here and no bid has been forthcoming, so he probably just thought "**** it, Ill start chatting with Man United and see if Chelsea break." Win Win for him, if we break and decide we want him, he gets his wish, if not then he plays for United, still an upgrade from Everton both in pay and stature, and he gets to play in the CL either way, which has been his dream.
If Costa had left, we probably would have bid for Lukaku and got him, but Costa reckons he only wants to go to Atletico, who are on a transfer ban. If Costa stays, we make him stay until next summer, then swap him for Griezemann, would be my ideal scenario.
That is such a cop out answer. You've been spending just as much as us recently and actually been net spending more than us.
I may be being dim here, but why would Atletico swap Griezman for Costa? Even if you gave them a ****load of cash plus Costa, that's a poor deal for them. I think they know what Griezman is worth - there will be a multi club auction for Griezman when he leaves, & Chelsea's pockets are not deeper than Barca's or Real's. They are not deeper than Man Utd's either, for that matter - they just paid £75 mill for Lukaku ffs, what do you think they'd offer for Griezman?
They are resigned to losing Griezemann, they would have lost him this season to United were it not for the transfer ban. Wouldn't be a straight swap obviously, but the Atletico fans love Costa and he loves them, they will take him back, and he is still playing at a high level. They took back Torres ffs.
Or £50m plus Costa I doubt United are going to try signing Griezemann next summer if they just splashed £75m on Lukaku. Even if Lukaku flops next season, they surely wouldn't be able to justify another big striker purchase. Griezemann might not go to Real either, as Atletico dont like selling to their biggest rivals. And why on earth would he go to Barca, when they have probably the best striker in the world up front? He isn't going to oust Suarez is he! If either of El Classico were interested they'd have been in for him this summer, and they weren't. Griezemann has his heart set on the PL. He wanted it to be United, but that might not be an option now.
If he flops and United don't win the league, stand by for the end of Jose. He will fall out with someone at the club.
In today's market, you'd have to think so. Assuming he continues to improve, that could even be the starting price.
I'm sure Griezman would back himself to succeed at Barca, should they show an interest. Breaking into that fromt three would be a big ask, but players at his level usually have massive self belief. Real will need to replace Ronaldo soon. Who says Griezman has set his heart on the PL? His agent maybe, but let the big two show an interest and that will change. Or maybe he isn't that good after all and it's just hype?
Griezman to United will happen it's just been delayed for a season because of Atletico's transfer ban.
