Clichy sold. Gibbs injured today. Traore injured in the reserve game yesterday. uh... Djourou injured today And vermi has to play LB now... OMG WTF THIS WILL BE 2010/11 PART 2 WITH NO DEFENDERS AGAIN
Jenkinson should play. Looked good and also is tall so might be good on set pieces. In the long term he looks like a far better defender then Gibbs. But as a LB he could not really get forward as he has to keep cutting in. Once he plays at RB we will also see his attacking skills.
Are you talking about the same Jenkinson that has a little Championship/no Premiership experience, aged 19? You guys do know that this is ARSENAL FOOTBALL club and no friggin Division 1 side don't you? It's not like we are skint or something, we can bloody well buy a proper left back!
From what we have right now he is the best option. Unless you want to move TV to left back and play Squillaci.
No, let's put TV at left back and BUY a decent CB like Gary Cahill. Against QPR (crap I know, but still) he scored a goal and looked top notch.
Yes i am, and i must say, there is nothing wrong with our current group of players. All of them are fantastique, and have grande qualite. Even Almunia. (arsene impression over) I would give jenkinson a run of games, he seems a real prospect, despite his lack of experience.
Thanks " A " Sounds like a cake walk to me BTW you forgot to use Arsene's favourite expression............. ' overall '
I bet Wenger is regretting letting Thomas Cruise leave! I'm sure there is a left winger hanging around the squad who can be converted to a left back, maybe Sanchez Watt... (and lets not forget Connor Henderson picked up a serious injury at left back during pre-season, is it cursed??)
The thing is most arsenal fans predicted Gibbs would get injured again and ...suprise suprise it only took two games! Why does Wenger always assume that injury prone footballers will stay fit?
Not just Gibbs. Most of us had good money of Vermaelen and Djourou to as well. That's why I picked Rafael and Ferdinand for my fantasy football team! Our injury record is shocking and we need both a LB and CB. I worry that Jenkinson will be found out playing out of position against a level he's not played at before and his confidence will suffer. I think he could be a real prospect but he needs to be brougght on carefully. Being thrown in with an injury ravaged defence when we're being scrutinised from all angles won't be good for him.
Right now Jenkinson looks the best option. If Traore is out, no-one wants Squillaci to play (why hasn't he been sold / released!?). I'd rather see an untested, young right-back played out of position than see Squillaci play in the centre of defense. The other option is to play Song & Koscielny at CB and Vermaelen at LB, but Wenger won't do that, as it'll shatter Squillaci's confidence!
That's why I picked Rafael and Ferdinand for my fantasy football team! ============= That worked out well JJ!!
Yup, I like Jenkinson alot but I feel it's going to take him 3-4 months at adjust to the pace of the Premierleague. (which we dont have ..especially with United and Liverpool up next) Its mental I would say 4 of the the last 6 Seasons fell apart becuase we did'nt have adequate cover for injured players. Wenger needs a change of strategy/approach but I cant see it happening. Let's say we dont sign a replacement for Fabregas and Nasri also leaves. Then Robin Van Persie picks up another bad ankle injury (highly likely). We could find ourselves stuck with the weakest starting 11 we've ever had under Wenger. (while the league is stronger than its ever been)
Don't I fecking know it! Worst of all it's an auction league so you bid for a player and they're then yours and nobody else's. Really good fun but we have transfer windows and I have to wait until January if I want to make a change. Arrgh. It's like being an Arsenal fa- oh wait... Back to reality though and the only solution I want to see is us signing a proven CB and LB. That's proven to be good I should add! That's only to deal with our defensive frailties too. Still think we need a creative CM and a forward. Theo, who I think can do a great job there is one of many first teamers made of glass. Honestly, I am convinced the likes of Walcott, RVP, Gibbs, Vermaelen, Djourou will crumble on at least 3 occasions each this season with some rubbish injury.
Yeap, I think they are the 4 positions we need players for. I wouldn't mind Jagielka (versatile so can fill in at full back and DM if needed think Koscielny and Vermaelen are a good pairing and am confident both will remain fit for long periods), Cissokho, Martin/Hazard (never seen martin play but sounds good), and a striker.
