I don't see many high quality players joining them, unless they just fancy being placed in the shop window for the following season.
Depends how good their scouting is I suppose. Players in Europe will mainly jump at a chance of any PL team. You'd think Wagner would have some good contacts in Germany.
So much talk of Rooney joining Everton on a free transfer. Would you take him for free (assuming wages were not an issue)?
Probably not no as he wouldn't really fit in here with the way we focus on team spirit and no big egos etc. Think it could end up being a shrewd move by Everton though. Think it would have been ****ing stupid to sign him on a 3 year deal with high wages but on a loan could be a steal. No matter what everyone says he's a good footballer who could benefit hugely from a fresh start, particuarly at his boyhood club. Also think in Ron they've got a strong manager who won't feel pressured to play him and will happily drop him if he isn't performing.
Conspiracy theory time but part of the reason for signing Rooney would be global marketability. This would not work if he is not playing. Also consider he will be minimum 100k a week from Everton themselves (their highest paid) For the above I would expect severe pressure to play him. There has to be a reason that he was still chugging around for Man United up until midway through last season... (I am prepared to be shot down over this but whatever) All that said perhaps he will consider it less pressure and perform. Not sure I agree and a return to the club he left as a teenager who are trying to push up the table could have it's own level of pressure. Also I am sure I heard about him being the worst player on the pitch in a testimonial (with no pressure at all...)
Atletico Madrid are preparing to make a first formal bid of £22m to re-sign striker Diego Costa, 28, from Chelsea. (Guardian) Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare has made a £20m bid for Watford striker Troy Deeney, 29. (Daily Mirror) Very interesting to see how these two players are valued!! One is nigh on world-class, the other a mid-table PL player. I wonder which club has its head screwed on? I suspect that Chelsea will want nearer £50m but if the club really do want to get rid of him, and Atletico play the canny game, they could get him at the end of the transfer window for something close to their original offer. Good luck Atletico!!
I'd quite like Brighton to start signing some players. Think they need to! Not convinced Ron always drops underperforming name players....Pelle springs to mind....
