Yeah, another top-quality DM might not be as flashy as some other additions, but if we're planning to play a pressing style (as Reed's statement on Pellegrino suggested), it might be the most essential addition. Much easier to throw bodies forward when you have that screen protecting the back four should teams bypass the press.
I would argue that we need better pressing forward players if we want to play a high press. Long is the only one we have atm.
I'm not that concerned about our forward players. I mean, the Poch side didn't exactly have a tonne of guys renowned as defensive-minded attackers, and they made it work. Effort and awareness are the primary components even if speed helps...we put together a pretty lethal press with a lineup featuring Lambert and Lallana, both of whom have below-average speed for their positions, plus a bunch of smallish players.
I agree with your comment entirely. Just wanted to point out that although saintmagic mentioned Long, he didn't specifically say "speed" was required for the high press.
A good coach trains his players to be able to play that way. Just because the likes of Redmond, Gabbiadini, boufal and tadic haven't played in a system with high pressure from the front doesn't mean they are incapable. For all I said regarding Puel and the fact sacking him was quite harsh - I am without doubt more excited and optimistic about our chances this season under Pelligrino than I would have been under Puel. Perhaps it was harsh but necessary I.e Adkins.

I expect us to sign Armstrong from Celtic. Being strongly linked and has similar viibes to when we signed VW, VVD & Forster. Once their champions league is sorted he will leave. Their chairman has even come out and said that unfortunately there will be a couple of departures
Aggressive, front foot forward midfielder. If, like Wanyama and VVD, he can "do it in the PL" we're looking at a cracking prospect.
Must be a dozen clubs alerted to this situation now, especially if we are waiting for their euro games to pan out. Just how good is our relationship?
Are we allowed to say "I hope the Saints's boys did a Stevie Gerrard on him" during the recent tournament, or does that make us as bad as them?
