Williams goes for 12 million and calls for 20 to 40 million for Mawson .....something just don't add up folks . I'd like to keep him , but if 20 million were offered there would be no hesitation in selling him for me .It's kinda funny for me , people are so sure of Mawson being the real deal after one season and people are so sure of VDH not being the real deal , without a real chance .

I do laugh at some of the valuations not just from our fans but other clubs outside the top 6... A broken limb in the first game will end up a waste of money....I read that messi can leave for £175m, I was tempted to give Jenkins a call to see if he was interested <laugh>.......It is gone out of control and clubs put silly figures on players heads that in a lot of cases they price themselves out......Do i think Gylfi is worth £40m....Absolutely not but should someone be silly enough to pay that then that is their problem.....I want us to be sensible when buying....£20m - £25m is high enough for a striker and £10m - £15m is more than enough for the rest of the players......We need to use the academy more than we do as what is the point of having one...

Williams is coming to the end of his career Mawson is at the beginning of his. If he has a successful season then of course his value will go up. Having seen them both play Mawson is much better than VDH.

I'm going to assume you seen Mawson play more than VDH , but I could be wrong . If Mawson is still with us next season and has a blunderless season , I'll say I was totally wrong , I just feel he has than " Dennis the Menace " finger on the button capability on defence ready to be unleashed . Time will tell . Also , I want to keep VDH as a young back up , not a starter . I would rid both Amat and Bartley before VDH , but that's me ...cheers .

Could argue that Mawson is better than Stones and Everton mugged Man City off for £50m too.

Mawson has only played for us for a few times and he has been like our other one game wonders.....I would want to see him for a whole season before he gets the super star status......Fans have bragged up far to many players just because they have had a good game and then they are crap for most of the other games and get slated for it....How long will it be before Mawson starts to get slated......Lets see how he does this season and if someone is offering us silly money at this stage then snatch their hands off for it...

Except that Mawson improved as the season went along. I suspect that like me you are old enough to remember when Trevor Morris was manager and we kept selling our players which meant we stayed in the lower divisions. If we sell Mawson who do we replace him with. Amat is not up to it, VDH has not impressed and neither did Bartley when he played for us. I agree we'll know more about his ability at the end of the coming season but we would be mad to sell him at this stage with no ready made replacement.

But £20m for a youngster could buy us two £10m defenders . I dont want to sell him but if he shows he wants the move then sell him....I think he will turn out to be a really good player but he needs this season to prove it i feel.....

He won't go there. He doesn't want to sit on the bench every week. That's why he came back to us.

But what sort of quality defenders would £10 million buy in this transfer market of crazy fees. Even Wolves in the championship are going to spend £15 million on a player as reported on Sky today. This is why I think it is so important to try and develop our own players through the academy.

Beg to differ with you there breezy, the whole team improved drastically under PC especially in defense but Fernandez, imo, remained the weakest link all season.

Imo, He doesn't have the pace to cover if we want to play high and he's not sharp enough to play deep. He can't head the ball in defense as well as a CB should and he missed several chances, some absolute sitters, up the other end. For me he's an average CB and someone we should be looking to replace pronto.

We only got away with it back end of last season because clement changed formation and because Britton, Fer, Cork, even Carroll, who ever our DMs were, worked their socks off in defense for the team. Siggy too and Llorente always came back to help out and this is why we improved collectively and not because Fernandez was playing any better than he had done before.

I think PC only picked Fernandez because he didn't want to expose two young CB's, VDH's only 24 and Mawson, who are both learning the game at this level. He couldn't trust Amat so Fernandez got the gig basically by default imo.

We've probably already got a good pairing at CB, perm 2 from Mawson, VDH, Bartley and Fernandez so our big concern in defense still has to be at RB. Naughton is now injury prone due to a stretched hamstring, Rangel is not getting any younger and Fer is not the answer as RB cover. When Naughton goes down, and his Hammy will tweak at some point, that leaves our man Rangel covered by??? your guess is as good as mine.

Read what I said. If he has a good season with us and ends up in the England team then why wouldn't he worth 40m, man city paid a lot more than tat for a guy who had just broken into the England team and was a novice. so it isn't impossible. I did not say anywhere that he is worth that now. But if he continues and does become a regular in the England squad, with todays prices he will.
