Yep, think you are right. We won't see him barking orders from the side lines, but hopefully doesn't disappear completely. Legend.
I never had the pleasure (honour) of watching Tiss but it's still clear he is our greatest ever and will be remembered as that partly due to ability, partly due to loyalty.
Nice touch and good for someone to leave on a positive note. So departs the last of our holy trinity that performed so admirably that season under Pochettino. A really lovely balance of players none of whom were deemed to be above average to outsiders.
Best player I'vd ever seen or will see in a Saints shirt. Possibly the best player I've ever seen, full stop.
Terrible quality video, but prime Le Tiss. Part of that wonderful cameo spell from Ronnie Ekelund. Features the worshipping at the corner flag and tremendous piece of commentary from John Motson for the second goal.
Not sure that any piece of football commentary from Motson can be deemed tremendous, but that video was appreciated. Ta.
Southampton want to secure the £8.75m signing of 18-year-old Caen striker Yann Karamoh, who is having a contract dispute with the French club. (Sun)
How good could Ekelund have become? Absolutely oozed class and his runs from deep were tailor made for someone like MLT. I still love the story as to how Bally got him from Barca/Cruyff.
If someone wants to start "Rickie Lambert Memorial thread" why dont you just make one? I'll even buy you a box of tissues to get busy with... Can we have our transfer thread back ffs! Sort this out please mods!!
Oh, I remember... Ekelund went to England, to FA Premier League club Southampton in 1994. In the 1994 pre-season, Southampton and Barcelona stayed at the same hotel during a training camp. Before leaving, Barcelona manager Johann Cruyff asked Southampton manager Alan Ball what he wanted as a parting gift. Ball replied "A left sided midfielder", and the next day Ekelund was ready to play for the "Saints".[9] Ekelund was an instant hit at Southampton's The Dell stadium with his skills on the ball, forming a great understanding with English forward Matthew Le Tissier,[10] who Ekelund later described as being on level with Ronald Koeman and Romário.[11] Ekelund soon suffered a back injury, and which the Southampton medical team felt that this could only be cured by surgery. As Ekelund refused to "go under the knife", the disagreement put paid to any hopes of a permanent transfer deal. Ekelund underwent brief loan deals with English clubs Manchester City and Coventry City, but injuries limited his playing time there. He was loaned out to Danish Superliga club Lyngby FC, playing four games for the club in May 1996.[3] Ekelund went back to Denmark on a permanent basis in 1996, when he moved to Odense BK. He played two Superliga seasons for Odense,[3] before the club was relegated to the secondary Danish 1st Division. He played one season for Odense in the 1st Division before moving on in the summer 1999. He moved to French club Toulouse FC in Ligue 2. Ekelund helped Toulouse win promotion for the top-flight Ligue 1 championship, but the manager was fired and Ekelund left the club.[11] During a training session while on trial with English club Bolton Wanderers in the second-tier Football League First Division, Ekelund suffered an injury which forced him out of the game for three months.[12] When he recovered, Ekelund signed with English team Walsall in the third-tier Football League Second Division in December 2000,[12] to play under manager Ray Graydon who Ekelund knew as a coach from his time at Southampton.[13] Ekelund played nine league games for Walsall, scoring once against Bournemouth.[14] He was offered a new contract by Graydon,[15] but decided to leave Europe in 2001. Earthquakes successEdit In April 2001, Ekelund transferred to US club San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer, who competed with Colorado Rapids for Ekelund's signature.[15] Ekelund suffered a knee injury in his first season at Earthquakes,[4] but recovered and soon became ever-present in the starting lineup. With great passing skill and leadership qualities,[4] Ekelund helped the team win the 2001 MLS Cup in his first Earthquakes season. In the following season, Ekelund was named in the 2002 MLS Best XI selection. In 2003, he helped the Earthquakes win the MLS Cup once more, as he scored in the 4-2 win against Chicago Fire. In 2004, the Earthquakes management team changed, and Ekelund was deemed surplus to requirements.[16] In four seasons with San Jose, Ekelund scored 11 goals (five of them penalty kicks) and made 16 assists in the regular season. He also scored a goal and made four assists in the playoffs.
Well no, some of us can't check this thread 24/7 like others , and we get in from work and see like 5 extra pages and instantly assume something has happend, a signing or serious rumours. Only to find its 5 pages of people talking bollocks about Lambert. What's the point of making designated threads if people are just going to post whatever they want , it's pointless.
