Maybe we should have a poll of the best No7 and I'll agree to honour my name to the winner? I forgot about Keegan (who was my 1st football hero). I remember in 1982, we used to stay behind for autographs and out came Kevin. I was in awe (I was only 13 at the time). He took my autograph book and said what's your name? I couldn't speak so my dad said Mark. He signed it 'To my friend Mark, best wishes Kevin Keegan 7'. I stared at it all weekend and took a photocopy into school as it was too precious to take the original. Still have it somewhere.
Depends how recent you'd like to go back. I think we've been linked, by the media, since we returned to the PL. Yet I don't think Saints have ever really been interested.
Another youngster joins Saints https://www.buryfc.co.uk/news/2017/july/confirmed-ferry-is-southampton-bound/
it depends how old you are, And when you truely started supporting the saints. i only enjoyed him during the latter years of his career.
Wonderful to watch. I had to check we were in the Prem that season as he made defenders look a bit 'Championship' I like that he didn't seem to try to send keepers the wrong way for pens because they coudn't stop them anyway. Can we get him in for some coaching on that! I loved the way he could slow play down when he needed to and would then play a killer pass 4 seasons as top scorer and then who beat him in that season? This. I love Matt and think he should great but my first season ticket was the 2010-11 season and I had one until the end of the first season back in the prem. I love Matt, but that team was full of my heroes. Lambert was the player that you wished to score in every game, he over it. If I watch back games of those years, I don't hate the deserters like Lallana. At that moment in time he was a player I loved and therefore those memories will never be tarnished.
I grew up with Matt. He is always no 1 (no7) in my eyes really. Lambert though does come a very, very, very, very close second. EDIT: to keep on topic, nice to see out current No7 looked settled in the video and is not angling for a transfer.
I for one wouldn't have let him go - a year off - a year slowly getting back - a year hitting form (for WBA) We'll see.
Huddersfield local press reporting that saints are to scupper their chances of getting Izzy Brown? http://www.examiner.co.uk/sport/foo...ld-town-transfer-rumours-southampton-13272162
What a nice boy he is. I shall miss his interviews. The only person I know under 80 who says he' "chuffed". Such a very northern boy, and I shall watch his progress with interest next season. Let's hope he heads for the treatment room when he comes back to SMS, just out of habit.
I'm a very patriotic (but yes frustrated) England fan but no England goal was met with such a response as that Lambert goal against Scotland. Where it is normally a "YES GET IN THERE" it was simply "LAMBERT, YESSSSSSSSSS, LAMBERT." I suppose one reason even moreso than if Le Tiss or other Saints players scored Lambert was a culmination of the dream, Roy of the Rovers stuff. From the bottom to the national team and always written off before he even played at every level. And each step up those writing him off were silenced instantly. Is he going to be able to step up a level now he's in the Championship? An assist in the first game and a brace in the third shut them up. He'll find the Premier League hard though. Man City first game away. 3 minutes after coming on as sub he scores. (Did he assist the second too?) England way above his level. How many minutes did it take this time to silence them? "I owe everything to Southampton Football Club." I nearly cried at that.
