The more i hear what Grayson has to say....

Simon Grayson believes the most important job for him as Sunderland’s new manager is to rebuild the club’s self-esteem after the misery of relegation and owner Ellis Short’s failed attempt to find a buyer this summer.

Grayson had no hesitation in quitting Preston North End to take on the challenge of trying to return the Black Cats to the Premier League and insisted, despite the problems of the last few years, that it remains a club with huge pulling power in the second tier.

Although Grayson has been given the task of succeeding David Moyes because he has experience of managing with limited money to spend, the Yorkshireman is confident he will be able to build a team that is good enough to challenge for promotion.

And, having struggled to attract players during a decade in the top flight, the 47-year-old is adamant that won’t be a problem in the Championship, particularly now that Short has given up trying to find a buyer.

"It's not going to be a problem attracting players to this club,” said Grayson, who took charge of his first training session on Friday morning, just a few hours after his departure from Preston had been confirmed.

“It's got to be the right type of player, with heart and soul, and a desire and a will to win. A never say die attitude.

“It's an incredible challenge, I'm really looking forward to. We definitely want to put a smile on people’s faces again. We want to get a unity and an affiliation between the players and supporters again and give them something to be proud of.

“A club like Sunderland appreciate a 50-yard run or a tackle sometimes more than a Cruyff turn. They want to see players doing everything they can for the team. Ultimately, if they do that and we can win matches, the positivity can increase very quickly.

“I want supporters to be proud of the club. I’ve left each club I’ve been at in a better state than when I went in – if I do that here, then I’m sure it will be in the Premier League. I want a working class city to be proud of its football team.”

I think he gets it. We don't ask for a lot but he knows the things that we do want.

It's a very easy interview to give as it's easy to deliver on what he's saying.

Looking forward to seeing what he can do under Short's restraints and i'll judge him on that without any expectations or media garnish.

He's certainly saying all the right things to get the fans on his side.

I just hope he doesn't turn round after the second game and say we're in a relegation battle!

Not that anyone would ever say that of course. That would be just plain daft!!!

The fans are rightly warming to the guy because of his positive attitude.
David Moyes displayed a downtrodden demeanor, always looking like he had just killed his mother, the prophet of doom.

Simon Grayson is Moyes polar opposite, has a happy, positive attitude and a smile on his face, which from what I've been reading on here and in the social media, is already making us fans happier and feeling more confident about the future of the club.

Any manager coming in with the positive attributes that SG obviously has was always onto a winner after the dark, depressive season that Moyes inflicted on us and the club.

Put me in front of the cameras in my SAFC gear and I'd say the right things as well.

Aren't these just the usual platitudes you usually get from a new manager? Nothing to get excited about here in my opinion.

Best thing to do. I suspect he will do a decent job though which in my mind is in and around the play offs (signings dependent)

I'll be happy with midtable, Especially now I know Short is staying. Debt remains the priority so don't mind wallowing in the bottom half for a season while we shift the debt.

Makes sense although you might be surprised by how terrible the Championship really is. I'll make a more certain prediction once the transfer window shuts.
