They have owners with money now!? I knew they took over and wanted Zola because he was more fancy of a name, but based on last season, I'm guessing they didn't spend anything.
Russell Martin has just signed a new deal with the club that will keep him with the canaries until 2019 & will remain as club captain https://www.canaries.co.uk/News/2017/july/russell-martin-new-contract/
Maybe he'll be in a 5-3-2 formation as a 3rd CB with Klose & Zimmerman, with Pinto & Toffolo (or a new LB if we sign one) playing as attacking wing-backs instead of full-backs
Oh well, I expect us to be one of the teams in the Championship with the highest GA this season!! Edit - Just read this on the article and all may not be lost - “Even when there are times when he’s not playing, he’s so important for the whole squad. All of the younger guys can learn from him about how to be a professional, how to work under pressure, how to behave. He’s a smart, intelligent guy and it’s a great decision for Norwich City.”
Don't know if this was spotted but according to the EDP website yesterday City have been linked with a teenage french goalkeeper, as City old boy Rob Green is touted for a move to Arsenal. http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/spor...rt-green-is-touted-for-arsenal-move-1-5087393 Which leads me to ask why did we get rid of Declan Rudd & not give him a chance?
The worry I have about Rusty is that he must have been on good wages, having been played in all our recent PL seasons. Unless he's taken a pay cut for an extra year, will he justify a relatively high wage in a squad that is being heavily trimmed? Especially if he will as most of us hope become increasingly a bit part player next season. I like Rusty for his passion for the club, but instead of continuity, I see this as clinging on to the past because he's popular. I'm sure the new team Webber and Farke have a plan, this is just another part of the plan that makes me nervous. Bah!
Same here GM - I was rather hoping that we may have seen him actually playing quite infrequently next season, but that now seems unlikley.
Although he has taken a pay cut, JT is still on £100K per week, I'm sure Rusty is a bit cheaper than that!
I cannot for the life of me understand how all these teams over the years get away with succeeding and getting away with transfer fees and wages like this without breaking financial fair play. How can any team in the Championship with a squad the size of theirs from the hundreds of millions they spend last season bulking out their squad. Be able to pay £100,000 a week to 1 player. Not to mention appearance fees, goal bonus, clean sheet bonus, signing on fees and agent fees. Wolves are doing it at the moment as well. Newcastle last season. Wednesday are consistently paying out big money. Pompey, QPR and Bournemouth in the past. £500,000 pound fine after a multi-million promotion to the Premiership is nothing.
As much as I dislike Terry he is a very competent CB and a good leader on the field, two things we were sorely missing last season. If by paying Terry a £100k a week Villa get promoted then he'll be worth every penny and more. There's a reason why Martin is cheaper, we could probably get 3 or 4 Martin's for the cost of a Terry, but we'd be no closer to getting promoted. Each year the Championship just gets harder and harder to get out of. It's early days but I'm not convinced we have a defence that is any stronger than last season. Until we sort out our defence we won't get promoted no matter how good our midfield is. Not that I woukd have wanted Terry anywhere near our club.
According to this rag, Boro are expecting to prise Howson away for a whole £4m. I suspect / hope / will be f***ing livid if he doesn't fetch close to twice that figure! http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sp...ough_open_transfer_talks_for_midfield_target/
Terry has to be a 50:50 gamble. A once great defender who may help to organise a defense to get them promoted. On the other hand, he is a strong charactor (polite for a seeming ego maniac?) Who will be getting paid double or more than the majority of the squad and could cause divisions in the camp tearing up their chances of promotion. (Could Terry's ego and influence in the changing room have been a part in the poor season and demise of Mourhinho? Who knows) Bah!
Howson for £4m - no chance. I get the impression that give-always are not in Webber's manual for transfers. He stuck it out with Dorrans so I can't see Howson going for less than £5/6m. Silly money for Jacob M will be ignored. What did Redmond sell for - about £10m? We should get offers of the same before Jacob M goes.
