Only problem is we remember what happened this time last year when we threw away a great opportunity.
Well said, at present I am very relaxed about the lack of signings. I would prefer us to sign decent players on the right deals then panic buy. As long as we have 4-5 in by end of next week I will be staying relaxed. Personally I think we will see a couple this week, a couple more next week, then loans and rest of signings at the back end of preseason, when clubs know what their squads will be and which players they need for the season
The earlier you get the signings in the more chance you have in building a cohesive team. Everyday that passes is a day lost working on the training ground with new players for the new manager to put across his ideas, which will no doubt be different to the ideas Bruce and Silva had.
Newcastle United lead the chase to sign Hull City winger Kamil Grosicki, according to Polish press. Manuel Garcia, agent of Rafa Benitez has claimed the Magpies are ready to pay up to £9.65million for the Polish international, as reported by sport news website Przeglad Sportowy.
I'd take that.. IF we reinvest. We need to see some investment of these funds this window and not just loans and freebies.
Not a whinge, but why bother with the Portuguese training camp this early. Would it not be better towards the end of preseason when players have arrived and can bond?
It will be a miracle of Silva 'esque' proportions if we sign 4 or 5 players by the end of next week. Grosicki and Robertson have to leave first. Forgive me I forgot there wasn't a miracle performed just for a minute there. Keep us posted with reference to the relaxed status.
The training camp is to build fitness mainly, so they couldn't run players in to the ground just before the season starts. When they come back it will be closer to usual training with work on tactics etc. I do agree though, in an ideal world, they'll all be there.
I'd be trying to hang on to Grosicki. Get someone of similar pace on the other side. Run the opposition into the ground.
This week is about base fitness and "pre-hab" (injury prevention sessions). Other than meeting your teammates, going for coffee ect, little will be done tactically in next two weeks. We need the players in place for that, and 4-5 players in 10 days is very realistic. The training camp will be where players gel. I am ex forces, and while people got to know each other through working together daily, the real "team building ", trust, understanding what makes you tick, how you react to things, really came when away from you home barracks. I learnt more about my mates in combat than I ever did in barracks.
Still, the earlier the better. I think Leonid would probably like to know a bit more about his charges before he has an influx of players last minute. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
And another potential outgoing for peanuts... Newcastle United linked with a £2m move for Tom Huddlestone The midfielder apparently has a £2m release clause in his contract. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-linked-2m-move-159155
