Aiden McGeady is set to leave Everton and become Simon Grayson’s first signing as Sunderland manager, according to the Telegraph.

The Irish international is set to join up yet again with Grayson after spending last season on loan at Preston. The 31-year-old impressed at Deepdale, recovering some of the form he once showed. McGeady was awarded the SkyBet Championship Player of the Month for February after scoring three goals and making four assists.

McGeady made the move to Everton from Spartak Moscow in January 2014. He made his debut against West Bromwich Albion and saw most of his playing time come from the bench. Playing time was again reduced after Aaron Lennon was signed in January 2015.

He was completely frozen out of the team going into the 2015-16 season, before moving to Sheffield Wednesday on loan. McGeady made 13 appearances whilst at Hillsborough, being dropped for the Owls playoff campaign.

I'm pleased he is not messing about but as I've posted elsewhere AMc should have been signed a few years ago when we were a premier club.:emoticon-0148-yes:

Not convinced he's PL material but a very good Championship player who's worked with Grayson before - think he'll be a good signing for us. As Red&White says, good to see he's moving rapidly assuming it's not lazy journo

Hopefully done and dusted by Monday so he can join in the pre-season start in Austria - think they fly out tomorrow.

My number one target. Him and Downing could be like having Johnston and Summerbee back in the championship
Striker in between who can lead the line and score goals. Jordan Hugill or Cameron Jerome. Wouldn't mind Frazier Campbell returning on a free, can play anywhere in a front three and would provide competition.

We could get all 5 for under £10m too.

Would give Grayson good options to switch between 4-2-3-1 4-3-3 and 4-4-2

Grayson always likes to play 2 upfront.

    4-4-2 or 3-5-2

I think this is a decent signing for the league, more than decent.

Experience tells me that signing players who are, in career terms, on the way down, is not a good policy.

It's OK if it's only the odd one and he has a cool head and a good influence.
However if he comes just for the cash and a cushy couple of years, it never works.

The Manager knows this one so we have to trust him.
I just wouldn't like it to become a habit.
After all it looks as if we are not going to be short of experienced players as there has not been a rush to sign those of our players who were 'less than successful' last Season.

How old is Frazier now? And where's he been?

Wouldn't touch jerome with a barge pole personally.

I agree with the bold but we have a lot of good/promising young players to fill in and further develop this season as I'm sure Grayson is aware.
Anyway we have rarely signed up and coming good players -a good post though :emoticon-0148-yes:

It looks likely to happen, but I've never been impressed with Mcgeady, but if Simon says so its OK by me, anybody would be an improvement on last seasons wide men.

I haven't heard anything recently mate, though to be fair I haven't really looked.

So being a lazy bugger, why do you say it's likely to happen?

Good player for this league. Never thought he was Premiership standard though and glad we never signing him in the past. Should do a job. Must be cheap though. I see the likes of Greenwood and Watmore eventually bagging up the wide positions for themselves.
