    This just proves to me finally that there are no loyalties in football any more. Maybe I was an old romantic at heart but I really thought Carroll would never leave you, let alone this early in his career.
    I know how you are feeling and its not good.

    I came on here with the intention of taking the proverbial but, if I am honest, it sickens me that not even today's incredibly inflated salaries can persuade a Geordie to stay and play for Newcastle. Imagine Jackie Milburn's response to this if he was still around. While us fans Sunderland dislike Shearer intensely, at least he stayed loyal to his local club even after your fall from the highs you were on in 1996. Most fans would just be immensely proud of pulling on their club's shirt and get paid a decent wage for it let alone the thousands per week that these lads are on. I must admit that Carrol looks like an all round top striker to me but it is almost criminal that he has gone to Liverpool...especially given Newcastle's good position in the league. Well maybe that's what to be expected of a criminal! (sorry, couldn't resist).

    OK, £35 million is hard to reject (and is obviously far more than he is worth) but it seems that it is Carrol who has forced the hand of the club who seem to have wanted to reject all bids, if the transfer request reports are true.

    Pretty sad day for football to be honest.

    In the meantime, you can't blame us for having a little chuckle after your local hero has jumped ship; especially after some of the stick we took last week over Da££en Bent. We are rivals after all! I wonder how much of the £35m Ash£ley will let Pardew have for transfers in the summer.
