No secret that Barcelona have made Marco Verratti their summer transfer priority. The Italian playmaker is Barcelona’s top target to become the long-time replacement of Andres Iniesta but Psg are not open to sell the azzurri star.

The player has already reached an agreement with the La Liga giants who are now trying to secure a deal for the former Pescara starlet.

According to Catalan paper Sport, however, Barcelona are already considering some potential alternatives in case they fail to land the Italian.

Manchester United’s Ander Herrera and Leicester City’s Ryiad Mahrez are reported to have been shortlisted by the Catalans. New Barcelona boss Valverede is a long time admirer of Herrera who worked with him at Athletic Bilbao, whilst Mahrez has already told his club that he wants to leave in the summer.

Juventus are also being linked with the Algerian star who could strengthen Barcelona’s midfield by either playing as attacking winger or attacking midfielder.

Mahrez was terrible this year. Going to have to disagree with you their Fosse. He had his moments where there were some sublime goals (see against Hull and assist for vardy against city) but too often he failed to impress, failed to use the ball well and for someone who isn't offering much defensively, you need to do the business at the other end which he wasn;t.

Also he wasn't great the year before under Pearson (not poor but not brilliant). He was subbed/benched half the time. That's not something you do to a key player.

I really do not know how he will get on at a bigger club as he likes to dominate the ball and hit on the counter. At the big club their will be less space (not necessarily a bad thing) but he can't hog it to the extent that he does at Leicester where the team is built around his and Vardy's talents.

    Spurlock and seabreeze like this.
  4. Unfortunately for Mahrez, I think he is destined to forever be the big player at the small club.

Unfortunately for Spurs players, they are destined to be the players that never won an EPL title ... unless they move across London or to Manchester, of course <whistle>

Mahrez on the other han, like many a player still at Leicester City, is an EPL title winner already ... such is life ... you can but dream, Quentin ... you can but dream <laugh>

Behave. The world isn't split into big clubs and small clubs. There's such thing as medium sized clubs. This is what Leicester are. To get an example of a small club you'd need to stretch your knowledge to levels it hasn't seen before like league 1

Same would be said for Spurs then. Why would you have the cheek to deny Kane or Alli moves to Man U etc by demanding stupid money for them

I'd disagree that he was terrible Bobby ... he certainly wasn't as good - although he did have a very significant and positive impact on our European campaign ... but the reality was that many of our players were poor for large parts of the season ... with only glimpses of what we were actually capable of ... smashing both Man City and Liverpool when we could get 'up for it' ..

There was an article where he pleaded that we lower the asking price. Between the lines that says he realises he ****ed up last season and has put himself if a situation where nobody will pay what the club wants and fair enough to the owners for standing firm. I'd love a fully committed Mahrez but I just think we won't see that again for us

  12. Neither of those players have requested a transfer, Johnny.

Unlike Mahrez, who has begged Barca to take him. Now that the penny has dropped for the silly ****er, and he realises they are simply ignoring him, he's turned his attentions to Arsenal with a "come and get me" plea.

Mahrez has shot himself in the foot in agreeing on that. But the comment of yours is arrogant and stupid. I take it you'd love every player to always leave for the next best thing then seeing as how your own club has been and will also be subject to that? Or is it because it's another reason to have a poor WUM attempt at Leicester?

Mahrez could have gone to Arsenal on the cheap last summer ... but then he's not Sol Campbell ... as such, we will get very decent money for him should he go (wherever that may be) ... if he doesn't go, it won't be because the club has stood in his way and I'd expect him to give of his best next season if he is still with us ...

Barca may still be interested, Juventus may ... it's all speculation and supposition at this stage at the clubs begin to shuffle their packs ... Kane and Alli are not safe just because there is no reported interest on thye BBC Gossip column Quentin. <ok>

Again John ... no direct quotes from Riyad Mahrez as far as I'm aware ... a lot of this stuff is dreamt up by the press when there is nothing else for them to print ...

We'll have to agree to disagree whilst agreeing that Quentin is a tool Fosse. He has put in a transfer request at the very least and now doesn't seem to have any suitors. I'd suggest it could have all be a lot more discrete and less come and get me pleas

I agree. He will be forever remembered for his exploits in the title season. The is a split of opinion over him between us as fans but I think a good comparison would be if Kasper left and I'm sure everyone would agree his never gave anything but his all. I genuinely can't say the same for Riyad. I just hope if he goes it's a worthwhile move as to waste the 'big move' on well any other club in this country would be a waste

Mahrez had a one off great season when Leicester won the title IMO . A good player who had a great season on a team that had a great season . He had just an alright season following the title win and knows this summer is his best and only chance for a nice " Big " contract with a big club and he's going to do anything possible to get the "Big Payday "

He was terrible, i stand by that. For such a magical player and when he's on it he certainly dazzles, he disappeared in far too many games, you guys just looked poor and his return was abysmal. He managed 6 goals and 4 assists in the league when most of the play is through him is abject. This is also bearing in mind a few of them goals were pens as he took over those duties from Vardy again.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, technically he's brilliant but he was very very poor by his standards and i would argue for the standards of decent wingers.
