Some fans here have a problem in understanding the laws of supply and demand. United feel that they need a "Matic" type of player. And Chelsea have got him. Unless United pay the asking price they won't get him from a rival. JM must feel that Matic will seamlessly slot into his preferred system and deliver the goods. Why get a £20m or cheaper player who could be a disappointment? JM must feel there is no point in taking an unnecessary gamble. Time will tell.
I think we should give up the chase for Morata now, if Madrid are going to hold us to ransom over the deal. Clubs just see us coming a mile off and stick an extra 20 million on every player we are after. If it was Arsenal going for him they'd have got him for 60 by now, and the deal would have gone through. Aslong as we continue to give in to these terms it's going to continue to happen. Let Madrid have an unhappy player who's worth all that money sitting on their bench next season.
You have a point but United know this and Real know that United know this. Real also realise that United are desperate for a top level striker. Do you give up on a player you need to make a point? I must say that United are not the only premiership club recently to suffer massive inflationary demands. Clubs in the continet realise that if it's a premiership club then they are stuffed with gold. If you look at the income of a mid ranking prem club, it dwarfs every club in the continent except those of the usual top clubs like Madrid (x2), Barcelona, Bayern, Juventus, PSG etc. The question is who would give in when the difference could be between £60m and £80m? it is ONLY £20m or so gap and my feeling is that United will give in as expected.
Is not like there are a lot of strikers that are good enough to play for you out there - you've already lost out on Griezmann so who else is there for you? At least Morata cares enough to come back from his honeymoon to try and force a move.
It's more than just making a point though. It's a message to all selling clubs that if you play around with us to much we'll take our money elsewhere. Despite what Real and Zidane say, they want to sell Morata to fund deals for other players, and Morata clearly wants to join us. They are just calling our bluff to get another 20 million as they know we will be stupid enough to pay it. Yeah we aren't the only PL club who have to pay a premium, but I think our recent stupidity in the transfer market means we pay a bigger premium than the rest. We are looking for a top level striker but there are plenty of others as good as Morata out there, and even saying that I don't believe we are completely desperate for one. Rashford will get us 20+ league goals if he's played every week, and Martial would be a very good back up. James Wilson is a good 3rd striker too. I honestly believe if Fergie was still around, there wouldn't even be talk of any other strikers with the young players we currently have at the club.
If I was on holiday and another company phoned me up and offered to double my wages I'd come back too
I think you could be right but a club of United's ambitions cannot take that gamble. The facts do not lie. We had the worst win rate at home in the league for a generation and the worst number of goals scored. It is almost a miracle that we have won 2 trophies and are currently in pot 2 of the CL. I know that Rashford did a great job for us but Zlatan did score most of the goals and we need a direct replacement for him. Apart from Griezman (who decided to stay at AM) I am not sure who else are there? Lukaku ? He has expressed a preference for Chelsea. Lewandowski? 29 years: not sure he is the prolific striker we need. Cavani? he wants to play in Spain.
Well to me it is just as much of a gamble to spend all that money on Morata and not give the players we have an opportunity to develop. Rashford didn't score the goals last season because he was either on the bench or on the wing. If he is played centrally and the manager shows faith in him to play him every game I believe he will get plenty of goals The reason we didn't score enough goals last season, had nothing to do with Rashford, it was a system issue, and probably a lack of trust in our defenders. Our striker got plenty of goals, it was a lack of goals from the wings and midfield, as these players where shackled down with to many defensive duties. So if we improve the defence, and add some quality in midfield I think we'll get more goals. If we go out and pay 80 million for a sub, then our board wants their heads testing. We should put the 60 on the table, and no more, and say to Real take it or leave it. The fact Morata is now actively trying to push through the move himself, should play into our hands anyways.
I think Lacazette would be a very good fit and is more complete and at peak. He would be cheaper as well, although it is not our money and I'm sure Lyon would add a bit just because it's us, like they all do. I'm of the opinion we could get him and have Rashford and Martial on board as our centre forwards for use as and when.
