It's the same every window, people get transfer envy because other clubs start signing players on June 1st. The season doesn't start properly until the beginning of August and it's still June. It'll be a worry if we haven't signed anybody by the first week of August.
We pissed about trying to be sold and what have you, there's none of that this year. The sole focus is on getting the club promoted and that's exactly what it should be. I'd be more worried if we had already signed 8 players by now, if only because the market tends to open up the longer you wait.
Must say I'm surprised at how much people are panicking. Yes, we've lost a few but we expected to. There's going to be a lot more going too. I for one am disappointed that Robbo isn't going to Burnley. He isn't going to stay, and we want decent cash for him but the quicker he goes the better in my book. Same applies to all the lads in the last year of their deals. At least we'll definitively know what we have for the forthcoming year then. In regards to the lack of additions. I had hoped for signings by now but I'm more concerned that we bring in the right players. Our summer recruitment has been incredibly poor for the last 2 years, could easily say 3, and we've wasted an awful lot of money as a result. I don't want to see that repeated.
We're only after £8m, according to numerous reports. Pocket change for PL clubs for a proven full international LWB. Again, why do we sell players so cheaply? Regardless of the fact he has a year left on his contract. Schlupp from Leicester cost Palace £12m!! He wasn't even a regular.
It really is baffling, if we can get £17m for Maguire, why not the same for Robbo? A-Bob has played in the PL more too.
It's really not that cheap. I like Robertson but he's not that good. He's a left back who's a complete liability defensively, he's better offensively but his final ball needs more consistency. I'd say that Schlupp is a better player and I don't believe he was in the last year of his contract either EDIT: Schlupp only cost an initial £9m
How long did he have left on his contract?? As for the 8million I would take it with a pinch of salt until he goes and the fee is confirmed, there's a lot of lazy journalists out there that just rehash the same information doesn't mean it's the fee we're looking for.
We were after, and reportedly got, an offer of 10m six months ago when there weren't many clubs looking. 8m clearly isn't a release clause so why not ask for 15m? If we keep him then great.
If we get promoted then the lost 10m is recouped in the 180m earnt.. Or he might even sign a new deal once we're back there.
But at the present moment promotion doesn't look likely. More likely we'll be in a similar position as now just £8m worse off And the money will also give Leonid the chance to reinvest it in the squad
Promotion would look more likely if we could keep the core of the squad together. No team gets promoted selling the majority of players. The hallmarks of sides to go up in recent years straight after relegation are because they've retained the majority of their squad.
He's not a complete liability though is he. It's just one of those popular things people say who don't have a ****ing clue what's happening in front of their eyes, like Tom Cairney doesn't have a right foot and therefore Sunday league material. People see a defender who's decent going forwards and automatically decide from that they must be **** at defending, even when that's quite clearly not the case.
