If this frees up Pogba to do what he's supposedly best at, and we see more of the Pogba that tore England's midfield open at will, then it could be a brilliant purchase. With possibly Fabinho as well, there'd be real depth to the midfield both defensively and in attack.
Joined the party late here. Think 40m for a 28 year old would be great business for chelsea personally. He was an absolute rock when he first joined chelsea, had a shocking 2nd season and was pretty nifty in his third. He's solid, dependable but doesn't necessarily have the legs to do it all by himself (he did in the first season). He will replace Carrick defensively but you will miss out on Carricks passing range. Matic doesn't really have the passing range/intelligence imo and is very left footed. He can hold off midfielders but i don't think he has the composure to play it out if its in tight and compact. Not sure he is that significant of an upgrade on felleini (better passer and less fouls but not as good in the air) so i think you guys night be disappointed as imo what let you guys down last year was moving the ball about quickly.

yeah. He's good at providing a defensive shield and stopping the opposition and very dependable at that. He occasionally goes on a lumbering run but his passing is normal standard and when put under pressure he will lose it (like kante). It's why in the big games we couldn't control games as those 2 boys have to hoof it away. The point i don't think he's a 35-40 million pound player and even if he was you boys aren't exactly screaming for a defensive shield, you already have the lump in felleini or the nasty but highly effective aggressive little scamper in Herrera or the pretty strong but positionally suspect pogba (i dont think you should be using him as a DM). Especially as a replacement for Carrick who was positionally very good and had very good composure on the ball with good distribution.
