Does Vettel not understand he drove into him? (The 2nd time)

I agree though Hamilton should have been penalised for the break testing. I thought there was a rule on cars distance behind safety car?

Let's face it. If tables were turned we'd be having calls for a lifetime ban for Hamilton.

Stupid move by Vettel, he totally got away with that one. Gotta reel in that temper a before it bubbles over and causes him a real problem.

Deliberately evasive from Vettel. Hard to admit in an interview that you lost your temper and had a red mist moment. Looking at it on the replays it was shocking from him.

Think safety car distance only covers until the lap it is coming in on. This is where the FIA need to publish the data on Hamiltons throttle/brake and Vettel on same plus steering.
Then we could all see the truth. FIA need to be more open.

    1. 39.5 No car may be driven unnecessarily slowly, erratically or in a manner which could be deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers or any other person at any time whilst the safety car is deployed. This will apply whether any such car is being driven on the track, the pit entry or the pit lane.

39.10 Once behind the safety car, the race leader must keep within ten car lengths of it (except under 39.13 below).

39.13 At this point the first car in line behind the safety car may dictate the pace and, if necessary, fall more than ten car lengths behind it.

In order to avoid the likelihood of accidents before the safety car returns to the pits, from the point at which the lights on the car are turned out drivers must proceed at a pace which involves no erratic acceleration or braking nor any other manoeuvre which is likely to endanger other drivers or impede the restart.

Wish Vettel had just held his hand up there, say it was red mist, won't happen again and we all move on.

Ah well. Spices things up a bit.

Either Seb sped up or Lewis broke, we need the truth.

Not read thread but imagine some things are going to be pretty emotional.

One statement only from me until I've read what's been said:
Disgraceful driving from Vettel. Regardless of the reason he drove into Hamilton (who, in my opinion, did not touch the brakes in any case), he should have been disqualified for using his car as a weapon afterwards. He drove alongside (wheel to wheel alongside) and then deliberately steered into Hamilton.

    Totally unacceptable.

The on board from Hamilton showed he did not brake as his revs were at a constant.

Vettel carried more speed into the corner and had expected Hamilton to accelerate. This didn't happen.

Vettel got caught out by this. An honest mistake up to that point which could easily have been brushed off by both.

Vettel has to be 100% sure he was brake tested to make that claim, as in F1 terms you may as well just ask to shag the other guys wife at the same time as both are things you just don't do.

Is there any precedent for retrospective punishment for an incident like this when one was given in the race?

Got to say I am disappointed in Seb today as I was in Mexico last year. Reminding me of Michaels red mist moments. He has to snap out of it.

I mean it meant we got a spectacle on track but 10 second penalty for that is just ludicrous, No?

    Yes.

He should have been penalised far sooner in any case – immediately after stewards had analysed the data and all footage (which I believe had been completed no later than 3 laps after Vettel's swing at Hamilton). What has further irritated me is that the decision to penalise him only came after it became clear Hamilton was going to need to pit to fix the HANS device. And that, I'm afraid to say, smacks of deliberate, considered politicking. I'm disgusted at how transparent it was this time.

He should have been Black Flagged.

That sort of behaviour – effectively nothing less than 'road-rage' brings the whole sport of motor racing into disrepute.
