Still being told Bertrand wants to go to a bigger team and is all but gone. Van Dijk will leave as soon as a club matches our price.
Getting in £100m for Virgil, Bertrand and Jay would be quite mouth watering, in addition to funds generated by other means (eg TV money), even though I would rather the first two were still here on 1 September. If spent wisely, we could be in for a very good season.
Yeah, City have been linked for a while. He will only be back up there though, but guess that is what he wants.
Less worried about Bertrand - we have two capable left backs (though always room for improvement. As for Virgil, sorry but the bloke is now well and truly in my Lovren, Lallana and Koeman pile. Shame, I thought he was different but I guess most are prats.
I'd suggest that there's a greater chance than there would have been in the past, after getting last summer so badly wrong. But yes, it is probably wishful thinking to think we would spend every penny. And hey, even if we decide to only spend, say 70% of all transfer fees, well 70% of £100m is still obviously higher than 70% of, say, £60m.
I doubt we spend all we get in which is slightly concerning. Obviously the more you spend doesn't guarantee success but there is definitely a correlation. Especially as if we sell VVD and Bertrand then that is 2 of our better players going who will need replacing. Other teams can spend the PL money and not be starting off looking to replace 2 of their back four. If those 2 go and we get around £100m in fees from selling some others then I would hope we would be looking at spending 70m at least. Shopping in the £15m market is probably not going to cut it if we want to stay supposedly challenging for the Europa League spots.
Saw a bit about a Saints stopper, then realised it referred to Cedric again. Where has this daft habit of referring to a defender as a stopper come from. Crap term anyway, but can be used for a keeper.....but not for anyone else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you read every single article on newsnow written by journalists with 0 credentials then you're going to come across stupid terms.
Ok, so if both go, what do we need? In my opinion, we need another cb, possibly two, attacking midfielder, Sigguson the obvious choice for me, yeah he will be costly, and possibly another target main up front. I believe we have enough talent to cover Bertrands loss. Now I don't think saints would pay the money for Siggy, but I guess we can all dream!
The problem is we should be able to spend tens of millions (£40m?) without even selling a player due to the revenue we receive. When you add the £100m (made up for arguments sake) from transfer sales, we will probably be spending £70m out of a possible £140m. Makes you wonder where that extra £70m ends up; some will be wages/agents fees etc etc, but certainly not all. This is of course all based on what could happen. The board may not actually sell anyone or perhaps they will do and then reinvest it all. Very much hypothetical at this stage.
What we need, IMO, is quality. Two CBs is the only hard-and-fast; from there, what we need are high-end players rather than cover, and I'd take it at just about any position. We could benefit from an upgrade in central midfield, or attacking midfield, or left back if Bertrand departs, or striker.
Or when they say a club is 'plotting a raid', I imagine something like this please log in to view this image
