The Virgil Van Dijk Stays at Southampton Thread

Getting involved in a cash plus player exchange just seems so, so logical to me (subject of course to them being good enough for us etc).

Firstly, we hold the cards - they want Virgil more than we want player X (who will differ from club to club - indeed with some clubs, there might be a couple of players of interest). So whilst we can continue to demand a premium overall package for Virgil, the other club might well drop their perceived value of player X compared to what they would want from him on the open market as a stand alone sale (the big boys can quite easily keep a player sat on their bench or on their reserves, if no-one is willing to match their often over inflated price demands).

Secondly, and this is something which I don't know the answer to, would reducing the amount of cash involved mean that the amount we have to pay to Celtic is reduced?

 

I am sure there was a case recently where someone complained at this. I believe they took it to the authorities and won. This is a feeling rumbling around in my head though.

 

Yeah, think Spurs tried to bury so fee's my doing that, but got found out.
We owe Celtic a %, and we must adhere to that.

 

Is the % of profit or on the fee itself?

 

I've heard its on profit, but I reckon its the overall fee.

 

So if we, say (I know it won't happen but just so I understand the rules), sold VVD to Chelsea for £10m plus Ake and Christensen would we then not owe Celtic any money if it is a % on the profit? Or would we have to come to some agreement about how much Ake and Christensen are potentially worth and then give Celtic a % on the total of that plus the £10m cash we received?

 

I need to try and find the case and the clubs. I am sure someone got into trouble over it but I just can remember who.

I 'believe' that values need to be put to the players in he swap, but I'm not certain.

 

Vorm to Spurs, but it was a bit complicated because Ben Davies and Sigurdsson moved as well and Swansea said that Vorm was for free. The end result was Swansea won, so work that out.

 

Yeah, I vaguely remember someone else trying to get around this by buying two players from the selling club.

The numbers are made up but it was along the lines of £40m was paid for both players and most people thought Player A was worth £30m and Player B £10m but the clubs tried to claim the fee paid for Player A was £10m and the fee paid for Player B was £30m.

 

That's it, because Swansea should have payed a sell-on clause!

Liverpool fans getting knickers in a twist about VVD to Chelsea rumours. It seems they are in the playground and think they have first dibs.
They should realise:

1. Hasn't happened yet.
2. He's not your player and he has nothing to do with you.

 

Its the only club where I put staff, players & fans in the same twat bracket.

 

I love how they are saying "don't believe the Chelsea bids, no evidence it is true"

But completely believe that they will sign him and that he said he wanted Liverpool over anyone else without any evidence at all. In fact the only evidence about them is that they have said they have withdrawn all interest.

Ok had to post this because it's so sad/really really funny.

On twitter, some Liverpool fans are posting replies on other clubs tweets asking for them to help free Van Dijk. I saw this on the Watford feed (mate is a Watford fan and sent me a link to them signing Hughes). Then explored more and almost every club now has the same group of fans pleading with them to help free van Dijk.

I know it's the minority of minorities but it's still ****ing sad.

I love the way they talk as if we are being greedy....the price is always high if the vendor doesn't want to sell. Strange how no one says that teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea etc are greedy when they set a price. Everyone recognises that they set the price high to deter purchasers. It's very simple....we want to keep Virgil, but there is a really stupid price that makes selling him worthwhile. And then there is the Liverpool premium to pay on top of that.

We really should just accept their first offer and be grateful that these people want to do business with the likes of us...

I love the way the red tops pull out quotes from ex Liverpool players on the situation, as if anyone could give a monkeys cock what they think.
