I hear this a lot from atheist types but I always wonder why they believe that there is more than one?

 

This is true but only from religious types, why can't there be more than one? The pagans believed in many gods and as all current day religion is based on that isn't it a possibility.

Again, I'm not an atheist, but I don't claim there is more than one, anymore than I would claim there cannot be.

The various religions show there is either a choice of gods, or variations of understanding them if there is only one.

No, you refer to their analysis of it. The facts (recorded deaths in battle, shells used, ships lost, tint amount of ground gained, etc) were recorded at the time. I do accept your overall point re the sensemaking part of the process, but it wasn't me who decided to throw WWI into the mix as an example of how nothing is recorded until years after the event.
