I agree with this for two reasons. 1) we shouldn't be making policy and laws based on what a religion says but rather on the best available evidence and the options available to deal with the current issues. 2) I think we have gone beyond a point socially where we should prosecute people for blasphemy, sex before marriage, being gay, etc...
Exactly. A religion is a belief system. It's a group of beliefs. Theism isn't. It's a single belief. Atheism isn't even that. It's a lack of agreement in the claims of theists.
Scripture is the sacred writings of a religion. Atheism has no scripture, so you can't have atheistic fundamentalists. It's nonsensical, by definition.
It doesn't. The fact that they are Bishops is neither here nor there. Thats like saying because Sadiq Khan is muslim, Islam plays a part in our government. It is a secular government. The Lords Spiritual will be gone soon anyway so I wouldn't worry.
Really, under pretext democracy/non-religious state and so on similar or far worse crimes are committed, don't try and make out that having no belief in god is somehow great and those that do don't carry out any said crimes or actions or even worse to those with belief.
It can, because it's not a claim about god. It's about what people think. I'm not saying that it's a fact that no gods exist, as that would be unprovable, as far as we know at the moment. It's a fact that people don't believe in any gods, though.
My opinion is that there are 3 kinds of people: those that follow a religion those that do not those that will mock and not have a rational chat about anything they dont believe i'll happily listen to the middle person, what with me being the top one, the bottom person can **** off with their 'i dont follow a faith so we dont need it'
I've never heard it called secular government before. We are not a secular state. While the highest religious leaders in the country form part of the legislative process, you can't call it secular.

Well yeah, the fact that Christians exist is a fact, but it doesn't make Christianity factual. Atheists existing is therefore a fact, but atheism is a belief.
If you separate those that don't believe and those that don't believe but ridicule those that do you also need a fourth option of those that believe and ridicule those that don't?
When did I say anything about having no belief in a god was somehow great or that atheist don't commit crimes? I said that comparing Richard Dawkins and the like with religious fundamentalists was disingenuous. Trying to put some utterly non-violent authors on the same level as the Ayatollah Khomeini is just silly.
