I'm at disbelief that this needs to be backed up with evidence; were these people living in a cave last month?
No one's disputed that it happened, I just don't think Van Dijk has been as big a dick as people are suggesting. Liverpool and his agent are more to blame.
Just depends how he acts in the coming weeks. Obviously being Captain as well you'd hope he would get his head down during a WC season, and we will see where we are next Summer.
Yeah, cos they held a gun to his head and made him engage... In my book, he is as culpable as them, not that it doesnt happen often, just their tough **** for getting complacent/arrogant about keeping it under wraps.
More culpable as he owed us some loyalty, they didn't. Even if interested, he should have just directed them to the club....by engaging in talks directly, he could have reduced the money we could make by having Liverpool the only game in town.
Fair point, but I just don't want to hang, draw and quarter him just yet. He may have acted a bit of a twit, but equally he may well still be our player and captain next year. **** happens. And I don't think it's right to say "after what he said" without knowing what he actually "said" over and above not refusing contact.
It was quite sad watching a DVD several months back when he was in peak form and to contrast him with his later performances. The money being offered is quite staggering given his injury and long lay off and notwithstanding his indifferent form this season. I will wathc with interest to see if he does become a better player if he leaves and whether he can get back in to reckoning for the England squad. I have my doubts that he will ever regain his form but, supposing he did, it will be quite an indication of the previous coaching regime which I recall Jay-Rod had been critical of.
He's 28 in July, I hope he gets back to some sort of form but I just can't see it. Can't believe he has been at the club for 5 years!
Totally agree, and perhaps him doing this and lowering his fee could have meant more cut for him. Virgil that is, not Tom. I don't believe Tom is implicated in this in any way...
VVD was just playing the game any talented footballer does. Of course he would rather play for a team like Liverpool than Saints, that is just obvious surely? The way he has apparently gone about it is "bad" but I'm sure this is the way of football transfers, we have probably been similar when signing someone from a smaller club. If he ends up leaving (whether to Liverpool or anyone else) then I will be happy that I've seen a quality player play at Saints, and hope he does **** wherever he goes, but won't blame him for doing everything he could do to get the move.
I don't blame him for listening to offers. I have little doubt that Liverpool did the approaching. It's his life/career and for all we know, Liverpool have pulled out of the transfer because Van Dijk was not prepared to go full Lovren. Time will tell
