What would they sponsor? Surely all the deals are tied up for years with Chevrolet (is it still Chevrolet?) etc.

There would be marketing benefits, absolutely. Was listening to TalkSport this morning on my drive and the line "money back in shirt sales alone" was tripped out about four times, to the point that the presenters said that they would have to ban the mention of shirt sales.

They stopped short of saying 'you're talking ****e' though, which they really shouldn't have.

It's a myth. Yes, eventually a good chunk of the fee will get paid by an increase in merchandising over the time said player is there, and there is bound to be an initial spike at first. But this idea the fee gets dealt with in two week is just nonsense.

We've got loads of 'official partners' we can always find room for more! DHL got bought out by our board iirc, as our 'training kit sponsors' and replaced with a £200m deal from AON that included naming rights of our training ground.

It's not gonna be too long before we're posting billion dollar revenues imo, and the marketing team will be telling the board they'll get there much quicker by fetching in big names, it's no surprise Pogba and Zlatan were brought in 'at any cost'.

Ronaldo's own rights are tied up for just about everything, but yeah we could probably wring a fair bit of cash out of other deals. Apparently clubs are allowed to have a secondary sponsor on the sleeves of the shirt next season - City have lined up some company for around £5m a year, so signing Ronaldo could help us get a massive deal similar to the £25m AON deal on the training kit. Also the usual bollocks of films, watches, wines, airlines and all the other ****e we seem to be selling at the moment.

For shirt sales, I'm pretty sure we get maybe 10% of the price of the shirt, but up to 100% of the price of the name on the shirt. So selling a basic kit with no name on the back for £50 nets us a fiver, but selling a shirt with "Ronaldo 7" on the back for £65 nets us £20 as we get the full whack for the name.

So if we sold 2 million Ronaldo shirts we could bring in £40 million, versus just £10 million for 2 million standard shirts. The shirt payment deal is always structured to encourage the club to make big signings to keep those named shirts turning over - ensure people who bought a Zlatan shirt last year give it up for a Ronaldo one this year.

Any adult paying to have a name printed on their shirt wants shooting, but that's a discussion for another day.

I'm sure the player gets a percentage of the shirt price from the club and from Adidas as part of their 'image rights' deal. Could be wrong.

And of course, we just happen to have the 7 shirt available so he can continue his CR7 global personal branding - a huge plus with such a huge money making machine already in place. I can't see Lucas at PSG giving up his shirt without it causing friction.

Why would he be so desperate to come back to United. I get that he loves the club but the internal set up is very different to the one he left. Which players that he played with will still be there? Carrick and...? He doesn't even have a good relationship with the manager.

I think it's all bullshit to force Real to do more about getting his tax issues sorted.

Nemanja Matic wants to reunite with Mourinho and is trying to engineer a move to you - Chelsea are close to signing Bakayoko and are apparently willing to sell.

James Rodriguez has allegedly said that he would only leave Real for you - now that Griezmann isn't happening, could be a good signing.

Some are better informed than others. The Express is effectively a far right daily comic book.
