It's too ghetto like in London. We should move these people out to leafy shires instead.

I vote we ask for volunteers in, say, Cheshire to show their multicultural colours by offering a couple of the victims a room for a year or two.

I said it was down to the Wilson/Callaghan government (not who set it <doh>) - so not inaccurate at all - the IMF insisted on it along with the cuts to public spending all because Callaghan had to beg them for that loan!

Good try, but just a story without backing. TC. I could equally assert that Callaghan only got into that mess because of Ted Heath's Government. If Ted had spent less of his time fiddling with kids & did his job, we might never have got into the mess we did. But tories tend to forget about the 3 day week etc. It's just like this tory government blaming the previous Labour government, but still more than doubling the national debt in 7 years? No, you need a lot more evidence than plucking it out of the air like that, TC. Think your name's Chesh? <whistle><laugh>

Callaghan only set that 15% rate for 7 weeks - yes, weeks! Thatcher set hers for 8 months!, then continued with high interest rates for years. In the 3 years after Callaghan set the rate, it came down to single figures for most of his remaining time. The IMF were ok with this, and the full loan was never taken up.

Thatcher kept interest rates in double figures for 13 years, with the occasional dip into single figures. Kept her banker chums happy. Chalk & cheese.

Ted Heath's biggest crime by far was leading the negotiations that culminated in us joining the EU - should have been executed for that crime <ok>

Oh, thank you for reminding me, Chesh. I forgot he was Prime Minister. Oh, wait a minute! <doh>

Heath, like any PM, had issues to deal with. You are the only person I've ever heard of - including tory MPs, who've ever supported him. How come Maggie managed to sort out Scargill? Or was he weakened by an ingrowing toenail when she was in office?

    Heath failed. End of.

Ah, so for once we're agreed. As neither of them were PMs, it must have been Heath & May's own fault that they were arses that couldn't do their jobs.

I don't know why you can't search yourself. Don't you know how to google?

Anyhow, if you look at this link, you'll see her date of birth which means that she was indeed around at that time, being almost 60 now.

    https://www.britannica.com/biography/Theresa-May

Although what this has got to do with anything, I can only wait in wonderment to find out your answer.
