Really? Diego said loads of people place bets making the odds as low as they are, based on all the rumour links, he couldn't be making it up could he? Surely not

It's all Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs or Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton links though isn't it, not one just naming us.

I know there was an epic betting thread on here ages ago between Dave [RIP] and tobes and I'm not looking at rekindling that ... but in this instance, don't bookies just come up with a name and a club, place an odds on it and see how it goes? Surely the ridiculous name links and odds on can't reflect punter activity.

 

I don't know where they get their starting point from..

I'm guessing they look at what gossip is about (for the original money making thought) and then the odds change depending on the betting market.

VVD (for example) clearly had a large amount of money put down on him joining Liverpool, hence the odds becoming not worth it. The bookies adjust their odds depending on the market.

I'm unsure how anyone could argue against that? How else would odds change in that type of market?

 

I believe bookies simply take bets. If there's no demand they cannot just make demand as that's illegal.

Say for example I'm a bookie and I started a rumour.. whoever to join Utd and 3000 Manc bet a pound each at 10/1... I'm raking it in cos I know it's fake ergo that's fraud.

If one guy walks in and bets 50 quid on say I dunno some lad called Maguire joining of then they can offer odds...

They'd have to offer odds on every player globally to join off otherwise

 

I had a look on the BetVictor site just because that was the one in the link in the original discussion and they offer odds for player X going to 'any Chinese club' 'any Spanish club' etc. How that reflects bets taken, I don't know, it just sounds like the bookie taking a punt.

 

Obviously they have to start somewhere to get things rolling - they only exist to handle bets, after all.
As soon as people take them up they adjust the odds accordingly.

 

The whole thing puzzles me in terms of transfer odds. I get how it works with the horses, that's pretty obvious. I also understand how if someone wants to place an unusual bet the bookie can offer odds based on what they think the probability is but all these players and all the possible clubs they could go to ....

 

I reckon they come up with special odds for one party who requests then advertise to take advantage of work done

Say you've a rooney to china bet. A lot would have sunk on that last january maybe.. I dunno. So the bookie says ok... we gave odds on this. starting 10/1 say... then they open it out

These are things that MIGHT happen.. not an outcome WILL happen its just who. by definition they are wide open to insider knowledge and **** like that.

Its a speciality thing.
