I'm sure someone from here touted Weld Arab a while back. Entered in the lucky last at Southwell tomorrow and already halved in price. Is tomorrow the day? 8s available.
16:15 Yarmouth - Patching (This Giles Bravery-trained filly has a squeak in this weak Class 6 affair in which all nine runners are still maidens. Going and distance should suit. Draw not the best over the straight mile, but shouldn't make that much difference?). (Should add that there is a fair chance young Kevin Stott will follow-up in the next race (16:45) on Tigserin, another filly from the yard of Newmarket trainer Giles Bravery).
Someone?!? Someone?!? It was none other than Dr Sir Barney Chuckles OBE VC MFI M&S – the forum’s very raison d’etre no less. I put Weld Arab up, big time, prior to his run last August and he was just touched off (a few I recall were critical of the amateur saddle monkey on that occasion). Since that day weld Arab has had 3 runs – a respectable 5th (beaten just 4.5 lengths) followed by a less than inspiring pulled up effort at Utoxeter and then a 6th placing back on the level. Weld Arab is back out to 10’s, currently, but certainly has the ability to go close in the Southwell (9.00) heat off a perching of 100 and with the excellent Cobden boy booked. I’m not on today though. Interestingly following that Flat run he was dropped 4lbs (to 63) and he also looks reasonably well treated in that discipline, where he is a 3 time winner, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the barn target him at more Flat prizes, later in the campaign, following this reduction. The Southwell Executive (where they race on the sod not the sands) must be delighted with today’s card and Mr Henderson should get a hurdling success into the very, very nicely bred Polly’s Pursuit (7.00) – what a lovely name for a mare by the way. Pol is a half-sister to Polly Peachum and her dam a full-sister to Denman). With a hurdling success under her belt Polly’s Pursuit is going to be a wonderfully attractive broodmare proposition, people. They must also be delighted with the turnout for the 8.00. Looks very competitive and is some eye-catching as the 8YO pair of Paladin (Weld Arab’s stable mate) and Barkis (trained and owned by Hendo) both make very belated handicap hurdle bows. Both are whopping prices as well which I find surprising as think both could outrun marks of 110 and 105 respectively. Also running is Sebastian Beach who has to be one of the greatest characters ever from literature! Cor blimey I’ve waffled a lot this morn but am somewhat excited as we are, of course, around 90 mins away from ‘beef stew and dumplings’ day. Good luck, troops.
I recall this one - wasn't it SBC who was kind enough to advise and if just got pipped at a fancy price ??
Oh dear, but I sure ballsed-up on the last two races at Yarmouth with the Bravery/Stott combo getting the last (and not the penultimate) race at 6/1. Never mind.
Bective Cave looks to have a decent chance of going in again in 7.10.Won well at Clonmel the other day and 6lb rise looks a fair mark.9/4 win.
Sorry ol lad would appear my memory is about as effective as your organisation's firewall (whatever that is). Weld Arab drifted back out to 14s, ran a blinder and got done on the line to one rattling home. Sacre bleu.
Just watched the Buzz race. I assume the jockey was instructed to ensure he didn't win, in which case he did very well. He may have just been inexperienced and thought he was running at Brighton with its uphill finish. Last night Buzz was 7/2 clear fav with the 2nd fav at 6/1. Today he was 4/1 with an 11/4 fav (who got beaten sh). Buzz was held in well back and was left running wide. Eventually ran on best of all to snatch 5th just over 1l behind the winner. Back on turf at Brighton, Epsom or Lingfield he should win again
