As I have already explained, there is no logic behind it, its simply to troll Spurs fans.
Same as phrases like Chelski, Manure, etc make no logical sense whatsoever but are still said by rival fans.
I think Chelski was even invented by the Sun newspaper, as witty as they are. (How about that Liverpool fans, every time you say Chelski, you are quoting the Sun <laugh>)

You will just have to accept it HIAG.

...as to logical links Quents? ... just one consonant difference I think you'll find ... the words therefore have more in common that they have differences, in terms of letters.... you'd have to be rather stupid not to have picked up on that ... did you pick up on that? <whistle>

PS Consonant is not a thin clear soup ... just wouldn't want you getting confused like you do with acronyms and synonyms

Can I be the first to openly condemn all trolling of Spuds fans ... it's just not needed <ok> <hug>

  5. See, that's where I disagree.

"Chelski" is perfectly logical, being clearly a parody of the club's Russian ownership. And, yes, I heard what you said about "ski" not being Russian, but to readers of The Sun it is of a sufficiently generic Eastern European nature to be able to include anything Russian.

As with "Manure," this is clearly a piss-take of "Man U" when they play badly.

In both cases, there is a logical connection - albeit strained, on occasions - between the club and the message being put across.

That is not the case with "spuds" and "Spurs." There isn't even anything offensive or inherently demeaning about potatoes! The connection is pathetic, and nothing more.

I have long since accepted the fact that there are immature cretins on this board who are content on using such a pointless and inoffensive term to describe Spurs and its supporters. I am, also, thankful that only one of you has been such a complete and utter dickhead to use the term "roasted spuds" beneath his avatar.

  6. Hey, Bambi!

I note that you have the words "Lord of misrule" as a legend beneath your avatar, and I am curious to know what kinds of behaviours evidence your "misrule."

Do you sometimes get really, really angry and throw a book of stamps at the chief-cashier, mate? Don't tell me you've taken it to extremes and ****ed up all the dates on the date-stamps?

    No wumming, just curious.

Yeah Polish, Russian, same difference! <laugh>

You're right though, in that the average Sun reader probably wouldn't get it.

    Urban Dictionary No.3 Meaning

    Spud
A particularly ineffective person, thing or action. Usually in the sporting arena but can be used for a variety of professions.
Did you see Mitchell Johnson bowl in the 2nd Ashes Test at Lords? He's such a spud.

Essentially I think they are calling your club ineffective or crap. i.e. they are being disparaging about your club. Perfectly logical being a rival fan. Also very handy that the humble tattie then has multiple ways of being used. Roasted - like you have been on this thread. Mashed - when Spurs get tonked. Baked - like Spurlock. Crushed...

So on and so forth. The multiple layers to the use of the word is quite enterprising really. All by changing one little letter. I think you should apologise to Piskie personally.

Firstly... what a complete load of bull!

Secondly, even if "spud" did have that meaning (which it clearly doesn't, in this country), it could be applied to any team and sport. There is absolutely nothing that connects "spud" with "Spurs" and nothing even remotely offensive about potatoes!

Everyone who writes anything in support of the connection is repeating the same massive wum ****-up.

I need to get a get a few more landing-nets.

... I've found over the years that the use of colours and patterns can assist those who might otherwise have 'learning blockers' ... so in the spirit of my mantra of wanting to give something back to the community, here's something I've pulled together just for you Quentin <hug>

    SPURS
    SPUDS

... do you see any similarities there Quentin? If not, you might want to get your rose tinted jam jar specs prescription checked

If you are still finding it hard to see, try putting the shortened name of any other English football team in place of 'Spurs' to demonstrate why the name 'Spuds' might be seen as more appropriately analogous to them rather than to Spurs.

    Good luck Quents <ok>

PS you probably need to get your rod properly repaired before thinking about additional landing nets <rofl>

Yup, people aren't going to stop.
Infact, now that people know it confounds him, they are likely to use it more.
Such is the spastic mentality of the internet forum.
Been doing this **** for 20 years.
