Honestly, the worldies the lad was pulling off was something else. I'm not sure stoke would have let butland go but who knows. I guess the other thing with butland who looked brilliant before he got injured is that he got a serious injury and re-injured it again. Hopefully he can come back but no one knows how well he has recovered.

The only thing about pickford is his command of the area as he's a short keeper. His distribution is also something else

Does being tall really help? Look at Calamity James, he is mooosive.....but was still questionable in command of his area.

 

Sure you get **** tall keepers, but you can't tell me a decent tall keeper is worse than a decent short keeper at commanding his area?

It's a wait and see thing really isn't it. He let a lot of goals in, made errors resulting in goals but also saved a lot due to being behind a poor defence. He may be a keeper who needs to be active to be at his best, who knows how it will turn out. Personally of the two I'd pick Butland and surprised Everton didn't.

£1.5m on World Cup hero Calvert-Lewin.

At this moment in time I would have gone for Butland. But then I am not the team who identified Vardy, Kante etc

I can't disagree with what you have said in terms of goals he let in and a few errors (well off the top of my head was against Swans but i'm not sure how many more). Some keeper shine when they have loads of saves to make and i agree lots of average keepers look good because of this.

What i would say is though that i have seen Pickford make a load of worldy type saves (seems to be pulling off loads of these) and his distribution looked excellent (sort of like Reinas).

I think at this current point in time i prefer Pickford over Butland. If butland had replicated his season from the year before i probably would have gone with butland.

Casillas was a world class shot stopper and could sweeper keep. Casillas has always been a massive flapper and never commanded his area. Even during all those euro wins his defence bailed him out as he was flapping everywhere (plus european football allows keepers to dive and win free kicks).

Yes but i bet there are more really tall keepers than command their area better than there are midget keepers who flap around.
