Romeu only came into his own after Vic left, because then he was given the sole responsibility of protecting the back four. Vic leaving allowed Oriel to more than fill his shoes imo.

I don't think we missed Vic. I think we missed VvD massively, and I think we have missed Clyne ever since he left. I think we can cope with losing Bertrand, though I am not deluded enough to think he isn't a very good LB. I don't think I'm deluded about McQueen either - he looks the real deal from me, and can only improve with game time.

 

Agree regarding McQueen, certainly a talent.

Hell of a long way to go to reach Bertrands level though.

 

Maybe. But he won't get there unless he plays, and with Targett as backup I'm happy to say we have the position covered, if Bertrand does go. If/when VvD leaves, that will be a much bigger loss imo.

I know it's an old comment, but is it possible that Steve Davis knew what was happening, with VVD and Klopp, and made his comments to put some pressure on the board to stand firm?

Not sure how this standard is maintained, but friends who are fans of other clubs are intrigued by the fact that we have a "Politics Thread" and manage not to make outrageous comments (well mostly). When you consider that we are all football fans first and therefore a bunch of dickheads it's remarkable!

 

I find it works best if I don't look at it.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but (as the Ugly Inside blog says) the idea that Liverpool is trying it on again has been raised by a couple of articles in the media. I cannot believe that they think they are in with a chance....at least this season. Liverpool have said publically that they have withdrawn from the pursuit of VVD and we have said he is not for sale (mmmm!). Surely it is ABL (anyone but Liverpool) or am I being naïve. If we don't stand firm, surely the price will have to be so high that it looks like a victory....and 50 mill is still being quoted!

 

Liverpool should be investigated, and if found guilty banned from signing players.Enough of the B.S. and just do it.
