His quotes on people in standard class on trains. Probably true but complete political suicide for a party trying to reconnect with people who have left the party for being "out of touch with the public"

as much as i hate myself for it i agree with this son of darkness when it comes to first class. sorry.

he does sound like a pompous **** but i'd agree that if you want them to work on the train they should be in 1st class.

I agree with you LR. Like I said what he says is probably true. Did you listen to the interview though? He comes across as your typical "I deserve better treatment" Tory ****. I've got no problem letting them ride first class but they can pay the difference from a standard ticket. It's not impossible to work in a normal carriage on a train I've done analysis on my laptop on the train before.

it always astounds me when you get these guys who've been in politics for years (he's been an MP since 1971) but seem to have no idea how what they're saying is coming across <doh>

patrick mercer is a good example said that shouting "get a move on you black bastard" at someone in the army doesnt mean they're racist, its just the army (they're just ****s basically). he seemed to think that just because he knew what he was talking about he could say the words "black bastard" out loud <doh> if your an MP you cant ****ing do that! you should also know not to imply that the general voting public are a bunch of plebs and you the modern incarantion of a roman senetor! maybe he's just standing down and thought, "**** it, i'll noise these cocksuckers up", if he did then i think we should invite him onto the forum. <ok>

Yeah, I had to sit with a Tory MP at a fancy dinner when I was in Uni. Some gay alumni dinner. Boring **** too.

I studied politics at school as really wanted to be an MP, but whats the ****ing point. Most folk think your a **** no matter what you do, you tell one bad joke, wear the wrong top etc & your career is over!!!

Plus I'm Catholic so my promotion is limited in that field.

There is no simple yes or no question to this answer. While there is no express legal bar the election of a non-Anglican British Prime Minister, such a situation would be constitutionally akward given the prime minister's role in appointing senior members of the Church of England. While theoretically, the soverieng has the ultimate power in making ecclesiastical appointments, he or she acts on the advice of the prime minister.

Under the Roman Catholic Relief Act of 1829, sect. 17, and the Jews' Relief Act of 1858, sec 4, no Roman Catholic or Jew may advise the sovereign on ecclesiastical matters. Were the prime minister to be a Roman Catholic or a Jew and alternate system of ecclesiastical appointment would have to be devised.

To date, all British Prime Ministers to date, at least while in office, have professed Anglican faith. Disraeli, while born into a jewish family, was babtised into the church of England at age 12 and Tony Blair waited till after he stood down from the post of prime minister to officially convert to catholicism.
Gordon Brown does not 'profess the Anglican faith'. His father was a Church of Scotland minister. It is unlikely that any other non-English Prime Minister would be an Anglican (e.g. Alec Douglas-Hume, Ramsey Macdonald).

Didn't realise that Castleger. Although politics bore the ****e out of me. I knew Skeletor was Catholic and remember something about Blair converting but couldn't remember when.
