Well I laughed to myself when I saw posts leading up to this game from resident troll Daiswan saying how unimpressed he was with Man City and that he's put a bet on us winning. Most of us knew we'd be very fortunate to get anything from this particular game so no surprises for me. Was well impressed with Rodgers' comments after the game. Very grounded. He touched upon some negatives. Defensively we were poor for the first two goals. Tate is no left back and it showed. But let's concentrate on brightening our day. For my money the positives are these, in no particular order. [Please feel free to add to this list if you like]: 1: The fans: Outstanding. Sang right through. Fantastic. Couldn't ask for more from them. 2: We stayed true to ourselves: I thought we played really well for the first 20-25 minutes and most neutrals will now realise that we play decent, expansive football that's easy on the eye. No hoofball. If we do go down (more of this below) we'll stay true to our principles in doing so and get a lot of admirers on the way. 3: We have more than enough to stay up based on last night: A sweeping statement but here's why. We were playing a team that will be in the hunt for the title. No doubt. Aguerro made a huge difference too. What a debut. The way City played in the second half very few teams in the Prem could live with them, let alone new boys like us. We will be playing teams a lot worse than City for the vast majority of this season. We will stay up because of that - and comfortably imo. 4: Sinclair, Agustien & Vorm: Three very good performances. Sinclair showed he definitely has the talent to get behind defences in this League. His pace and touch looked class at times. Shame nobody could keep up with him in a white shirt. I thought Agustien eventually succumbed to the sheer weight of class that he was faced with but didn't look out of his depth for the most part. Some very nice passes. Vorm kept the score below 8. A superb keeper, and as I said before this game he will prove to be our best signing this season and will be instrumental in keeping us up imo. So reasons to be cheerful, part 4. We'll cause some upsets away from home this season no doubt. The Liberty will prove to be a very tough place to visit for every single opponent and at the risk of sounding like Tiger from Cardiff 606: WE WILL STAY UP! You heard it here first.
Realistically, the season was always going to start on Saturday against Wigan. If we lose to Wigan and Sunderland at home we know we're in trouble. I'm hoping for 4 points from those 2 games. Vorm - brilliant!
This is very simplistic , but it is the way I will feel after the first six games looking at the opposition we would have played: 6 points is the target and would be an indication to me of us surviving in this league. 4 points would show we would have a battle on our hands to keep out of bottom 3 3 points or less , a long hard season propping up the table. After our baptism of fire , I am actually still confident of at least 4 points , and think we have a more than realistic chance of 6 points.
OK I watched and enjoyed last night's game, as a Man City fan, not an anti Swansea thing, I don't think 4 - 0 was a fair relection of the game, and a lot of teams are going to get spanked at Man City, Swansea showed enough for me in the first half especially to suggest they could well survive in the premiership, and I think that they might well turn the Liberty into a bit of a fortress, and this home form could well be enough to keep them up. Positives for me as a relative "neutral" were that Swansea stuck to their principles and played their slick passing football, and Sinclair, and a few of the other Swans players didn't look overawed or out of their depth. Negatives, for all the Swans nice football, they seemed to lack a cutting edge at this level, and could struggle for goals, but then again they are not going to come up against defences as mean as Man City's every week. I think that the Swans might be a bit like Blackpool, they are going to win a lot of friends, but not many matches, unlike Blackpool though I don't think they will get relegated, because although it's early days I think there are three worse teams in the premiership than Swansea. Home form is going to be the key, if the Swans can sort that out, then they should be OK. Not a wum, just calling it as I see it, I hope they survive, it's going to be tough, and they might need to spend a few quid but I think they can do it. They might have to compromise their principles slightly, last night they sometimes tried to play TOO much football at times, the Man City defence showed that sometimes just putting your foot straight through the ball is the right thing to do. Again not a WUM, just an honest appraisal, I think you can survive, and hope you do, you got chucked in at the deep end, and most of the more realistic Swans fans realise that anything outside the bottom three is going to be "success" in your first season..................unlike the QPR fans the Swans and Norwich fans realise it's going to be a long hard slog...............enjoy your roller coaster ride
Never wish Swansea any ill, just wish my own team better, people slag Cardiff off, well they are going to get it back, I think you guys will struggle, like any newly promoted team, but I think, and hope that you will survive, and become a sort of Fulham sized club, not going to set the world on fire, but do enough to end up mid table, and not to be taken lightly.
Well said Prophet! i agree, i never wish bad on Cardiff, just want Swansea to do better.... think Malky is gonna do the biz for you guys..... Cheers!
Good post, Prophet, full of good sense, fair comment and all the more valued coming from a Bluebird fan. Nice one.
Prophet, you talk sense. I too hope we can stay up (will be a battle but I think we will get enough points at home and then a few scalps away from home on the way). I am also confident that as long as the so called favorites in the championship (e.g leicester and a few others) continue to balls up the quality they have by mismanagement of talented individuals by being unable to instil a team ethic and the belief that they can buy their way out of the championship (not a dig at cardiff last season , but I hope you will agree this is not a guarantee of success), that MM will provide good leadership for you and hopefully keep you in contention all the way to the end of the season. I feel that cardiff this season are more of a team , and not just talented individuals , and feel that team spirit is more beneficial at the crucial times (but lets all hope you can fight for the autos and not rely on the play-offs - best way to go up but worst way not to). Lets hope we can show the world what the south wales derby is like in the premiership.
Stoke fan in peace Kinda unlucky to hit one of the fancy dan teams away on your first day..... From what I have read here you are all very proud of your tippy tappy style. I am sure you are all aware of how many teams come to the premiership with the same ethos (Hull / Blackpool / Burnley etc) and they were all relegated.... The bigger teams will patronize you stating how proud you must be with how your team tries to play and forget you come May next year. Don't make the mistake of becoming the new blackpool.
the resident idiot kangaroo jack laughs at a comment i made with man city and man utd . what has that got to do with last nights game you muppet. they were completely two different games that were approached differently, god you can be so stupid with your uneducated comments sometimes..
The thing is , our style is not just "tippy tappy " as you call it. There are many different ways of playing the passing game (just as there are many ways of playing the direct game), and to group us with blackpool , Hull etc just shows a slight but of ignorance of our methods (please don't take this as an insult , as I feel your view is perfectly understandable one considering how alien the passing game is to you).
??? Our goalie passes the ball to KJ all the time However, you may well be correct as, apart from last night, I have seen little of Swansea. My point is our style keeps us in the PL - many others have tried using style over substance and failed. Whatever, I welcome you to the PL and hope your style brings you enough points to survive.
With all due respect, I think I'd prefer to go straight back down playing the 'tippy tappy' style than hang around in the PL playing like Stoke. What does everyone else think? Or am I out on a limb?
I do not disagree with your point, and I do not in any way disrespect your team or the style they play , as it is as you say effective enough. I also agree that our style may not be the most effective as far as maintaining premiership status is concerned. You must however understand that the typical Jack supporter is quite philisophical about this and we would prefer to maintain our current style of play and fail trying , than changing it in an attempt just to stay up. Sounds strange I know , but we have had such barren years since '83 , and to see entertaining football is enjoyable , no matter what league we are in. Don't mistake any of the above though for not wanting us to stay up - I desperately want us to. But with our philosophy intact.
Oh so Daiswan didn't post that we had "nothing to fear in Man City", that they were "pretty ordinary" v Manu and that you'd "put a bet on us to win" last nght. Yet I'm the uneducated one? And who's this Kangaroo guy?
We have to hand it to Swansea, you guys played some damn good football - especially in the first-half - it was wonderful to watch, knowing you had not reverted away from the way you normally play. I do not mean this to sound 'holier than thou', but we knew it was going to end badly for Swansea (result wise) by the time the full-time whistle came. The fitness was just not there for the players. However, if you keep that up all season (with match-fitness) I see absolutely no reason why you won't remain in the Premiership come the end of the season. Oh, and Vorm - damn, he's good.
Thanks for that mate, we try and keep to our philosophy of football, if we fail to stay up it won't because that system of play doesn't work, it's just we were not good enough to play it in this league, we are not about to change the way we have been playing for the last 5-6 years because a Stoke fan says we should play route one direct football, and I mean that with respects. Pure and simple you out classed us yesterday, and gave us a lesson in finishing, we will learn and we will beat other teams, they are not all man citys thank god we will give you a different game on the return match, we may not win but we won't lose by so much lol
Does anyone else think the user mcfcforum citywebsite suspicious? a single post does not a user make. The question I find myself asking is was this done by a Swansea fan to make you all feel better?
Cardiff fan, To be honest I take no notice of those that just want to argue rather than look at the football side of things in a reasonable light. It is easier for top teams to start playing well once they get the first goal but you showed this might not be as easy as some think. I thought Man City were dire in the first half and the commentators on my net stream said you would not know which side was the multi million pound one. Certainly you can finish above Norwich and QPR so one more team doing badly and you look like you can stay up. Getting your first win will be the hardest part but once you have three points on the board things will look much better.
