Too true.... incredibly naive, massively disrespectful and yet another example of an agent not working in the best interests of their clients. If VVD is stupid enough to meet with/text Klopp he really isn't the player/person we thought he was.
In his defense, if he is approached by a club be it personally or via his agent. Then I think it's only natural to ask what that club has to offer. I would do the same, even if I was happy at my current employer. Obviously a line has been crossed, but I don't blame him for hearing these clubs out. Who for all he knows could agree a deal with Southampton for his transfer in the imminent future.
You say "in his defence" but those would be in the terms of his contract and would be clearly laid out. If a club is interested, they approach his agent, he's clearly been told he's not for sale and doesn't need to be sold so this is his way of trying to engineer his move. I have no sympathy for his current predicament or naivety, the only way forward I see is that we hold out for the £65 million plus future incentives, but make it clear that we plan without him. We already have a very adequate back up who if he keeps improving at the pace he did last season, will be a very good replacement long term.
He has no defence: Virgil van Dijk took part in detailed talks with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp over where he would fit into his team, as the level of unsanctioned contact between the Southampton defender and the Anfield is now uncovered exclusively by Yahoo Sport UK. Southampton have reported Liverpool to the Premier League for illegally trying to entice van Dijk to Anfield, with the south coast club infuriated by the actions of the player’s agent and the clubs involved. Van Dijk: Staged one-on-one talks with Liverpool and Klopp Received video messages detailing how he would be used in the Reds team Already finalised personal terms with Liverpool Has now ‘kicked up a fuss’ in a bid to be sold by Southampton, even though he still has five years left on his current contact with the club. “Southampton have told the player that we don’t want to sell him this summer, but he thought he could kick up a big enough fuss that he would be sold for £50m. “That is never happening and by holding talks with the player, sending him video clips of how he will fit into their team and doing this all without the permission of Southampton, there is no way he will be sold to Liverpool at this stage. “Of course, every player has a price and if £100m or something close is put on the table, then it will be considered, but Southampton do not need to sell van Dijk this summer.” https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/rev...190009053.html If he did this with Liverpool, I wouldn't put it past him doing the same with other teams. As I have said before, I don't mind that he wants to move to a bigger club. Way he has gone about it is the annoying part
Too easy to tap up any player these days,it happens all the time, and tbh it he hadn't been caught we would never had known until he submitted his request to move.
Tadic is a good player - but needs the right sort of manager. For whatever reason Puel it would seem was not.
He's betrayed every fan who has paid to see him, sung his name or printed it on their shirt. Total disrespect in my opinion. EDIT- Wrong thread *face palm*
Taking an interest in a player and letting it be known that you are interested isn't a crime, and happens all of the time, but some times the line is stepped over, rarely is it overstepped as much as in VVD's case.
He has been a bit selfish and disrespectful but if he stays another year, applies himself and then goes for a world record fee I'll have nothing against him. He was being a dick to get what is best for himself; now it's time we do the same.
I agree with the poster above, He has been a monumental cock, BUT! I feel we are better served bringing in 1 top CB this season, Providing VvD applies himself this season.
I'd rinse Liverpool for all they've got now. If the above is all true, including how much of a sulk VVD is currently in the middle of and the evidence Saints have on Liverpool tapping up, then both VVD and Liverpool are very very vulnarable. Celtic have 10% of the transfer fee too so in our interestes to secure a fantastic (world record for a defender?) deal with incentives and clauses that suit us. I also think Gomez, Sakho and/or Markovic would all fit in very nicely to our squad, should that sweeten the deal . We hold all the cards after the big contract signed and the tapping up.
I found out this morning my 7yo posted a number of messages last night when he was supposed to be sleeping, he was crying with laughter at his achievements!
