    Horse ****!

Even in the modern day crazy prices world, £75m could buy a world class striker. Why settle for a CB that's had four good months at a second rate club?

Never said he wasn't good, I said he's not worth spending such a crazy amount on.

Without doubt he'd improve us but we also need a LB, CM maybe a DM and certainly another attacking that too. But yeah, let's blow £50m+ on a CB

That depends on what the budget WAS and other targets WERE.

I certainly dont disagree on any of those needs.

I think our summer is in ruins now so god only knows where we are going now.

I really don't think the fee should be a problem, if he is good enough and you have the money, pay it.
For me the problem would have been the reported wage. It would be very unusual for a CB to be the highest earner at a club the size of Liverpool, especially as you have just given most of your top players new contracts. This could cause problems.

Not really. I fully expected a 200k per week player shorty AND again fee and wages are all press/agent spin.

    So do I shorty <grr>

I just think it will be a striker/attacker not a CB.

Don't generally care how much we spend on a player but nor do I like seeing us being taken for mugs, an all too familiar feeling in recent years!

When a player is looking like one of the best in his position with 5 years left on his contract (not 1 or 2) then you should expect prices like this to be quoted these days. You are not being taken for mugs, just learning what it's like to compete with the big boys.

If he'd had two or three quality seasons then yes, but not after four decent months.

I actually wanted us to sign him from Celtic btw but most on here didn't want us to go near him since the Scottish league is so poor!

If he was that elusive missing piece of the jigsaw then I'd have no issue with spending so much on a CB either. But not only do we need to improve several aspects of the first team, we need a squad!

I get that bit but, after many years of 0 to -ve net spend you should have more than enough in the kitty to buy what you need.

Well by rights it should be but the prem reality now is 150-200k is not exceptional.

100k for lovren will merely look above average in 2 years or less.

Average prem wage must be near 70k now.. dunno what exactly.

I'm all for spending mate. If rather buy two or three quality players than spreading the cost to get sox or seven hopefuls. Just think the amount is TOO much for Van Dickface. Maybe I just don't rate him as highly as others do.

    PS...Alderweireld is better imo btw

I would say there is very little between them as the best two in the league.

Yes. But when you don't get your first choice, it doesn't mean the sky's caved in.

I hope so, we don't play a progressive pressing game that wouldn't suit us
