Tuchel?? Smuchel. I was getting my hopes up for me as more from that list disappear. It can't be long for that call from Les now.. *taps phone*
The only way Tuchel comes here is if he really wants to manage in England as we are probably the best available side atm (bit of a coin flip with Palace). However he has now built up a rep as one of the brightest young managers in Europe and if he comes here and fails, which is obviously a possibility then that would almost certainly ruin his chances of getting a big English job for the foseeable, and with a club like ours any manager coming in is just as likely to fail as succeed in my view as our policy relies so much on good recruitment, which can go wrong. If I were him I would probably take a few months out and see the lay of the land mid season with the bigger clubs around Europe
If I was Tuchel, I would look at it like this, Come to Southampton, Raises profile and gets up competing for the top 6.. And then after 2 yrs, He could replace Arsene.
He could look at it that way, but if he fails then he would have no chance of the Arsenal job. Saints is not an easy job with the current model, I'd be looking at somewhere a bit more stable if I were a manger with his rep (if he is eyeing the Arsenal job in a couple of years)
The trouble is that we stand to lose any manager that does well at Saints. I was thinking that at least we'd get to keep Puel..
Finish 6th/7th/8th (playing attractively) - get poached by a bigger club 8th (playing the most boring football in the history of world football ever ever)/or below - get sacked for being too crap. A vicious cycle
I'm sure a self confident football manager wouldn't bulk at the challenge. Every job comes with its pros and cons. I think the level of investment and expectation level at Southampton are pretty well matched
Exactly. If he doesn't have the balls and confidence to do a job like Saints, he's not cut out for the top, full stop. Either way, ain't no way anything would happen prior to the takeover being resolved. No manager worth even a smattering of salt would dive into the unknown like that. I don't think. Am guessing we're waiting on the conclusion of that before any announcements or changes are made.
