I thought deserved a thread in itself, According to Onda Cero, They're saying he's going to have a medical and sign a 5 year contract on Monday, For me, I'm not bothered about the fee, As long as he scores goals for us, If he joins us, He has my backing as well.
You think everything deserves a thread for itself, though in this case I will agree with you. Of the Real Madrid rejects on offer this summer, Bale, Rodriguez, Morata etc. Morata was the only one I wasn't against us signing. Morata is an out and out goal poacher who doesn't suit playing in a team with Ronaldo. Benzema is more suited to playing with Ronaldo as he'll do a lot of the donkey work for Ronaldo that Morata won't. So I think Morata is a Real reject because he doesn't quite fit into a team with Ronaldo, which is nothing to be ashamed of. Abit like Zlatan at Barca playing with Messi. Morata is the sort of striker we need to replace Zlatan, as he's very well rounded. He's pretty quick, he's good in the air, his movements good, and he's clinical. You could say he's abit of a tap in merchant, but I see it as more of a skill being in the right place at the right time, and he's certainly shown a knack throughout his career of doing just that. He won't score as many impressive looking goals as say Lukaku for example, but I think he'll score just as frequently which is all that matters at the end of the day. I don't think we should let Real hold us to ransom over this deal though, 60 million is the maximum we should be paying. I here them talking about 75-80 million for him, how can they really justify asking that much for a player who sits on their bench most games.
People said the same of Van Nistelrooy , and of Gary Lineker years before that. Did neither of them any harm
I hate that term, It annoys me, I remember Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder were being called that but they proved to be one of the best players in the world.
I've never said it did, but that's just the nonsense we'll have to listen to next season if he does score a lot of them. To me it's the sign of a very intelligent player, knowing where to make runs, and how to lose markers. Van Nistlerooy did have that, but he did have a lot of ability at finishing in the penalty area too. It's not as easy as people like to think beating the goalkeeper as often as he did, even if it was from close range. If he went through on goal you just knew it was a goal everytime. If Morata is anything like that, then we've got a serious player on our hands. Goals per games is the most important statistic that a striker should be judged on, not how many of their goals where goal of the month worthy.
They where still rejects at Real, wether Real where right to get rid of them is another debate. Robben for me was maybe a little unlucky, but his selfishness didn't do him any favours, I think the Bayern coaches he worked under afterwards managed to coach that out of him and made him a better player, especially Guardiola who made him more of a team player. Sneijder plain and simply wasn't good enough to play for Real Madrid. He was good but he wasn't quite that good.
Indeed. Costa got the same **** levelled at him as well (as well as the, justified, criticisms over his temperament). But it matters not, for a striker to be in the right place and the right time and read the play, and have the composure to bury it, thats what you want in a goal scorer.
He's staying at the club to train and get fit. That, to me, says when/if he is fit again he'll get a short term contract to the end of the season. He'll want a premier league, we've not seen the last of him. We just don't pay him in the meantime.
