I hate to say this but I fear for both Celtic and Rangers in Europe. This season is probably the most important SPL European Campaign for many years as we do not have any representatives in the Champions League group stages for the first time in nearly a decade. It is important that both clubs not only qualify but get through the group stages in the Europa league to have any chance of maintaining our stature within the European Elite. I know we are far from being amongst the best in Europe, however, teams have this perceptive respect for us because of the size of our clubs and it would be nice to show them that we can still compete at European level. Both teams must therefore do all they can to stop the embarrassment and ridicule faced by our two great clubs in European Competition starting this week.
I dunno. I think if both teams get through the qualifiers we could do alright in the group stages. Even better if Hearts make it but that's a long shot. In terms of money, there's so little in the Europa Cup that you need to get to the QF to make any decent amounts. It might even work out better for the co-efficient with both teams in the Europa Cup.
Rhebel - I like to see them lose also but I cringed when they got knocked out of the Champions League because I know it will affect the SPL Co-Efficient in the future.
Both clubs should be looking to be in the QF's at the very least. We can still compete at this level.
I dont care about rangers, so i dont care if they go far or dont. Really doesnt bother me But i do fear for us if we dont do very very well in the Europa League Our own club ranking in the coefficient is ****e, but its being held up by the last time we got to the last 16 of the CL (Strachans 3rd season?) Im not talking about the SPL one - but our own one for what pot we are in etc, if we are seeded/not seeded in qualifiers That is about to drop off next year, and every year since then has been pish so we need a good one
Agree Anport Anyone know if Sion are going to be chucked out? Read yesterday they were given a transfer ban for poaching a player but still signed the likes of Gabri despite not being allowed. UEFA should have chucked them out before allowing them to be in the draw instead of having to deal with it now or possibly after the game!
you get 4 coefficient points for being in the cl and 2 points for a victory in the cl. a victory in the final round of cl qualifiers is worth 1 point. same as in the final round of europa league qualifiers The group stages of the europa league also get you 2 points for a victory.....same as the cl. the huns are far more likely to get a couple of victories in the europa to offset the lost 4 points for reaching the cl...... the coefficient thing is bullshit as you can garner more points in the europa than you can in the cl, so I don't buy that ****e at all.
As a Celtic fan, I couldn't care less as to how well or how badly Rangers fare (although if they are the better side in games they win, then fair play to them). While not expecting that Celtic can do as well as the mega-rich clubs in the Champions League they should be doing better than they have done in recent times. They should certainly be capable of doing well in the Europa League but I fear the inexperience of the current team could be their downfall ....however, I live in hope (and 'faith'!).
Why is everycunt so ****ing negitive? Both Celtic and Rangers should come through these ties. Malmo was a freak, if Rangers played that tie 10 more times they would win everytime. I think we have come a long way from last seasons pathetic showing and we should both be relishing this chance to put the record straight and show we are good teams that are more than capable of competing at this level.
I agree but experience counts for a lot in these competitions and this Celtic side, while, no doubt, very capable have already shown a remarkable naivety in the recent Inter Milan game both in defence and attack. Hopefully, however, lessons have been very quickly learned!
You get 4 points from being in the CL group stages. for example, the huns got 9 coefficient points last year. 1 victory=2 points 3 ties= 3 points cl participation = 4 points In the europa league you play 6 matches against poorer teams. If you get say 9 points in the group stage (2 victories and a 3 ties) then that is 7 coefficient points AND you are in the next round, in which one victory makes a total of 9 coefficient points. You get one extra point for reaching the 1/4 final stage. For that reason, you can match or surpass the coefficient points gained in the CL if you get a run to the latter stages of the europa.
But if you get pumped in the CL you don't really deserve point do you seems fair enough to me although I would prefer to do away with seeding and have free draws all the way.
I want Celtic, Rangers and Hearts to make the Group Stages ... Then Rangers and Hearts to get humilated in every game!
You get four coefficient points for reaching the last 16 of the CL, so those 2 years we accrued 16 points in bonus points alone.
I'd still rather get some games against Europes Elite in the CL rather than get to the UEFA semi finals lets say Yeah we may not be favourites but you cant beat the build up to CL nights or the feeling when you beat a Man Utd or a Barcelona. We could win every game in the Europa groups and the feeling woudlnt come close Plus ve loved CL away trips in years gone by. Id love to go to madrid to play them in their stadium as opposed to beating Slovan someshitefromcountryiveneverheardof. Points for the coefficient or no points - although if both go hand in hand happy days
The Europa Cup is a bit like the League Cup. You don't really bother with it till you reach the latter stages and there's a chance of winning it.
