Queen's worth every penny financially. She's our Brand and you couldn't buy the opportunities she provides the country. It's not even close the value for money she is.

However that's nothing to do with the democratic issue of having a royal family. Any arguments about how daft it is having an unelected head of state on democratic grounds can't be argued with. But we don't lose money from them.

I mean morally it's abhorrent, but as long as the Yanks and Japanese still come...

I'm not talking about the morality. I'm just saying you can't use financial arguments when bashing them, all other arguments i'm not talking about.

As we had the fastest growing economy in the G7 in the run up to the vote, then dropped off after it, it seems likely it had a significant bearing.

Ironically the only idea from Labour that floats my boat...is the one about ending the monarchy and putting down the groundwork to make us a republic with a democratically chosen head of state, rather than one that is imposed...

I said that on privatisation the number of staff at the power stations fell from around 1500 to 500 - health and safety improved and the costs halved because they weren't cross subsidising the railways and British Coal any more - finally the uk could compete with foreign competition rather than being the lame man of Europe because of the unions and years of badly run nationalised industries

I can't think of anything worse than having people vote in a president, the election of the politicians is painful enough.

The only thing is I don't like the idea of having politically active head of states. It would be good to have something where the whole country can support them and not half of it hating them.

So in theory we could end up with a TRUMP like character with a crown? The monarchy are one of the country's biggest assets because of the history! A republic my arse!!

Canada didn't just vote Brexit. Canada doesn't have the majority of businesses and individuals being cautious with their finances. A better comparison would be to look at our growth pre Brexit.

I see you agree I quoted you correctly.

1,000 jobs at decent wages lost plus the knock on effects for British Coal and British Rail whilst the power industry still made profits to pay into the Exchequer.
