Don't forget the role Roy Hodgson played in tapping up Lallana and Lambert. He told them both they should be playing for a bigger club, and specified his own favourites.

What I find disgraceful is that the media instead of condemning Liverpool for what they have done are saying they must be stupid for getting caught.

We basically got caught doing what everyone does these days.

No excuse though as we ****ed up big time and can't blame anyone but ourselves.

It's not all good news for you guys though. I should imagine Virgil is livid and he'll probably go for less without such a bidding war going on. Even if he stays he can't be a happy camper, surely?

Who knows? Hopefully Liverpool will just move onto other targets, luckily this happened before the window is even open!

Yeah, but alternatively, Schneiderlin assumed he was leaving us, got told no, had a massive meltdown, calmed down, stayed the extra year, and had his best season for us, then left for a big price. Who knows what's going on. It seems Klopp was heavily involved, are you pissed off with him or the transfer committee if that still exists?

Incontrovertible proof of corruption, but it's not just football, the reason Lady Justice carries scales is so she can weigh the gold.

He may well go , but what I HOPE happens , is that he calms down , and plays for 1 more year . Like Morgan did , he went eventually , we knew he would , but we got that last year out of him , and he went with most fans blessings .

Godders touched on this yesterday, but I'd like to add something.
All these ex players and media men saying this sort of thing happens all the time, and its no big deal should perhaps pause for thought.
L'pool are already serving a ban for a two year long tapping up of a Stoke academy player. The family are currently in the middle of suing LFC for damages.
Then there's the whispers of how they completed the Solanke deal from Chelsea. Club officials were pretty annoyed at how that deal was completed, talks again had been taking place before they were supposed to.
So, if we are to turn a blind eye to all this, then it really sets us down a dangerous path, but if that does not concern you, then sounding like a total mug should.
Craig Burley, Carragher, ect......hang your heads in shame.

I dunno Sky, we all agree it goes on but we clearly felt you've gone too far.

Most of the time the clubs are in contact even if a fee hasn't been agreed.

There's a big difference between sounding out a player who the clubs are negotiating about but yet to reach an agreement and meeting a player under contract before even enquiring about him.

The first is a bit ****ty but standard practice these days. The second is just downright ****ing sneaky imo.

Klopp has to take the majority of the blame here, imo. Our transfer committee as we had when Rodgers was in charge is no longer in place.

We now have a guy called Michael Edwards, he is our sporting director and seems like a total fool. From what I believe Klopp has final say on all transfers, I think he demanded that when he joined which is a good thing and fair enough. I think I'd want the same if I was managing a PL club.

Truthfully I'm pissed off with the pair of them, but I'm not going to moan and groan about the situation. If it changes people approach all round then good. Clearly it goes on loads nowadays with player power and such.

The bottom line is. We won't sign Virgil. We won't get a transfer ban. Hopefully other targets will be landed.

I would have loved VVD but it's not the end of the world and we'll be saving a ton of money in the process.

We don't know 100% facts about what happened though. I think you're a bit naive mate if you think what we did doesn't go on all the time. Players know other players, coaches know other players - they talk. It's usually kept quiet due to a good deal happening.

You basically grassed us up <laugh>

How can you know what you did was not way worse than what goes on all the time?

I don't. perhaps this meeting today will shed some more light on things.

I'm simply saying that this type of saga happens all the time. The whole saga I have no idea about tbh.

I'm assuming Klopp met/phoned him whilst under contract and discussed a move to Liverpool - That's probably the extent we're looking at here. That goes on everywhere btw and is common practice abroad.

    We'll probably know more later.

I think at the least Klopp met him, but then I think other things (worse) happened as well in order for Liverpool's response. Yes this sort of thing happens all the time, yet this instance seems to be much worse.

I agree with what you are saying but I'd say it's more through agents etc. normally rather than personal meetings.

The nature of your statement shows you were bang to rights imo.

You have to wonder why it came to this though, the respective boards must be used to dealing with each other.

It will be interesting to see how this effects future relations.
